Chevy orange so both, lol. All duplicator spray bomb. Just gotta get the windage tray in it and the headers sent off to the coaters. Not real impressed with the header paint but I figured I'd give it a try.

header paint, or grill paint? Grill paint is what I would use if I didn't want to go with ceramic.

Started out with header paint but that stuff was like water. I then tried the grille paint and its thicker but not acting like it sticks to the metal worth a crap. They are brand new headers. I used a stainless steel wire brish to remove the flaky crap heddman put on there and wiped all the parts down with cleaner before I tried to paint it. My powdercoater lives in mississippi now and he told me he would coat them in ceramic for only $70 plus shipping so thats the path I think I'll go.

The ceramic is extremely thin anyways, i can blast it off like nothing in the blaster compared to powdercoat (or even standard paint), but the heat reflecting qualities are there. $70 for baked ceramic paint is a good deal, that stuff is $25 for a few ounces!

I'm shocked grill paint didn't work for you. That's what I ended up using on my trucks manifold that looks like a header and so far months later it's still looking great, even after being in the salt.

Grill paint holds up nice, but is easily scratched, specially on aluminized steel

Which would explain why mine is still good- it's not aluminized. I also sand blasted it before shooting it.

John, have you looked into the techline coatings? Jon is using those with success. I'm not sure how durable it is compared to powder coat ceramic, as you have to put it on thin too.

You don't have to put it on that thin.

I'm assuming its about as durable as most coatings out there... My biggest issue was getting the header in without scratching it then... Once its in and cured its pretty tough. I left my brake reservoir open once and I slammed on the brakes which caused fluid to spill out onto the header... I tried to wipe it off quick with a towel and it melted the towel... and I was like FUK I just killed the coating... So I just drove it home mad, and when I opened the hood to check it again it all burnt off... I was like WTF!

I still haven't done my rear header yet.

You still need a HVLP gun to apply it though. I also think I'll be getting a new coating this year and scratching the stainless I tried, since well it just didn't stay shiny.

I'll let you know how hard it is to blast it off my front header so I can re-coat it.

I was referring to the grill paint. Like Jon said, the stuff I use is hard as a rock once cured, but since I have a dedicated pair of ovens, that's a snap

I coated your headers, but have to re-coat the other set since I tested the "chrome" color. Trying to get it shiny without taking the ceramic off is too much of a pain and will just probably keep it simple colors. They suggest blasting them at 35psi with #12 glass, I used #13 at 12psi and it will still take the coating off in some areas.

I don't use Techline, different brand, but I'm sure it's the same/similar product, it's about $25-30 for 4oz (set of headers).
