Actually, not many miles at all. It was rebuilt about 3 yrs ago and I haven't put a lot of miles on since then. Probably around 30k miles on the transmission. And I'm putting in fresh ATF soon. I just don't want to do it, PITA. Though, the ATF is still clear and a rich red. Probably doesn't need changing yet. But some trick shift would be nice.

Yeah but it isn't that bad. In fact, small ports are better for velocity IIRC. Feeding a garden hose with a fire hose, that water is going to be travelling very fast. Great for cylinder filling and clearing out the exhaust gasess during overlap. Besides, I will be doing a 3400 top swap down the road.

That poor little 3100 is going to take it down her throat whether she likes it or not, lol.

        --------------------------------

I finished welding the exhaust today. All the places I had clamps are now welded. Clamp free! I even welded in the downpipe O2 sensor bung (for emissions inspection purposes). Tested the pipe and there are no leaks. I trimmed the driver side engine mount and that is ready to bolt up.

Now, after installation tomorrow of the exhaust and mount, all I have to wait on is the replacement -4AN braided oil feed line. That will be an easy install.

I checked the coolant level today and there is no loss, a good thing. Since I noticed a little coolant in the old oil filter, I was a bit worried. But I now realized that occured when I lifted the old heads. Coolant had dumped on the cylinders, so some had to of dumped down through the camshaft area, even though I had placed a towel over the camshaft to protect it, some coolant had to get by. It seemed inevitable looking back on it.

I have to flush the crankcase before it runs any more. So I bought 2 rounds of standard 5w30 oil. First flush will be added and drained after a good day of driving. The second will be a week later with a moderately cheap filter. The final round will be inspected periodically until I am confident all traces of coolant are gone.

        Almost ready to start tuning.
