  • Turbo parts coming in

I have nearly all the stuff now.

Just waiting on a few critical pieces to ship. Like my new radiator, oil pan tap tool, cylinder heads and fuel injectors.

I was sucessful in swapping the PCM from a 97 Lumina. After reviewing the wiring even closer, I realized I didn't have to swap trans solenoid A & B wires as they are wired together in circuit anyways, as far as the manual shows.

I have my HPT and pulled the pcm file up. The VIN is registered and ready to flash.

Managed to rig the MAF to sit right in front of the TB and the IAT is just behind it. The IAT fits into the plug that was meant for the crankcase ventilation line. Battery is in the trunk now. Intercooler is mapped out, in my head, and will install most of it today.

Got my P/S pulley puller, Crank Balancer Puller and torque wrench.

Garage cleaned up and stocked up.

With this winter storm coming, I will have much to do.

For any one interested, I will post up pics in an hour or two.

Shall I say it?!?! WOOOO HOOOOO!!!!!!! I am one happy camper, lol

careful: there is a reason why GM left space between the TB and MAF from the factory!

Out of deep curiosity, why? And, what would be the optimal distance? Same as factory?

Crappola, I have to redesign the intake lines.....ugh. They are about 2 inches apart!!!

turbulence caused by the TB opening/closing is why there was 8"(or was it 12"?) of intake between the TB and the MAF. it can REALLY throw off it's accuracy.

i think the 94-95 3100 MAF setups actually had the MAF really close to the TB, but i bet they either had driveability issues or the factory worked on the tunes quite a bit...

If its turbulence, I should be ok. Have you seen the pics of my TB yet ported out?

The way the stock intake line was created...very turbulent. But I can see moving air slamming into a closing throttle plate causing reversion across the MAF and telling the PCM there is volumes of air moving when in reality its not, just bouncing back. But the BOV should help reduce such an effect even more so then a N/A engine.

Oh well, better safe then sorry, I'll move it back, won't be that hard to do. About 6 inches to start. if I get issues, I'll keep that in mind. But using smooth aluminum pipe versus the stock crap lines, lol, no questioning.

You may wonder if the engine mount fits considering where the WG is. It does. I figured the WG was better off there then crammed in the rear portion of the engine bay. I put ALOT of thought into placement, that was the best place I could think of. At least the piping is good, no hard angles. Flow should be real smooth in all places. The downpipe was some effort but worth it, the WG flow will merge with the turbo exhaust quite well since they both come together in an even angle to each other, about 60 degrees of each other. The pipe was cut very precise, no edges over hanging, nothing but smooth transitions. And the welds are solid. I had to puddle weld the joints, otherwise I would get burn through and blow open a big hole. But I had to have good heat to ensure a great weld.

              end update

Tomorrow for sure, I promise. Right now I had to use aircrack-ng to get online. No problems though, it is my neighbors connection and he won't mind. He knows I've hacked it before, doesn't really care. So it isn't breaking the law per-say.

But, the connection speed is terrible. No chance in Hell I'm uploading pics with such a low connection.

Here is a crappy story. I am moving up the street, we have Verizon changing account ownership to my brother since he is staying here. We specified not to turn off service until the tech was here to switch it out, boxes, ect. Well, at 4am the service (i-net, phone and tv) was shut down and the Tech never came. I b***tched up a storm and still no service. They say they can't turn it back on. I'm no dummy, I know they can. I was given every run around. No supervisor available, it has to be off for 24 hours to switch, blah blah blah.

I was nice at first, very polite. I told the rep "I know its not your fault but is unfortunate you have to be the ear of the company. So here it is..."

I am so freaking angry right now. I have two kids driving me nuts w/o tv. And worst of all, I have no phone. What if an emergency happens? I mentioned that, still.

I basically demanded service be returned, after all, I did pay for the entire month. I told the rep to walk down to the tech room and flip the switch themselves. Get the supervisor, CEO, I don't care who's head has to roll, f**king fix it.

Worst customer service ever!!! I was hog ties to my ankles, rear ended and was told to deal with it.

Now I am going to my bank and getting info on a back charge. I WILL get my money back for this month. Freaking idiots, Verizon, kiss my @$$!

Everything is packed up, I'm busy putting my car together, the garage sprung a leak that likes to splash my head when working on the car and the kids are soo bored they are bugging me every 5 minutes.

That is the type of day I am having......

I can vouch for Verizons crappy service... When we moved in to this house from our apartment I used an online form to transfer service over. It asked me if I wanted to disconnect service at the old location, and of course I answered yes. Well not more than 15 minutes go by and we have no phone or internet at the apartment. If only they could reconnect that fast.... We get to the house and 8 weeks goes by and no phone or internet. I had been working quite a bit and had been keeping myself busy with unpacking, organizing in the house, and getting my garage set up (wiring in my 220v for my compressor, 8 shop lights wired in pairs, filling cracks in the concrete floor and finally epoxying the floor). So I finally hop on my cell phone and call Verizon and inform the gent on the other end I've been hanging out on the phone wasting minutes on my 550 minute a month plan for the last hour waiting for someone to help me. Then I tell him about the whole apartment disconnection thing and no service at the house and inform him I know this isn't his fault, so I'm trying to be a patient person. At any rate, he wipes out my old account and sets me up with a new one so technically I'm a "new customer" so I got my internet at the "new customer" price for the second time, so at least that worked out. Also, there is no switch to flip. A computer put my mom out of a job when she worked at the phone company as an operator years ago. As for the kids, you should go buy them a Wii, that will keep them busy

Did you consider having the WG dump externally? thats how i have mine... i have heard you gain a little power that way.... And it sounds bad ass when it opens up

I would also recommend a turbo Blanket for heat. Ebay has them cheap

Hmmm, external ehhh. Well, it's welded up to the downpipe.

What about emissions? If the tech sees the wg dumped externally, I may not pass emissions, since it is not passing through a catalytic.

I have a blanket already. I got a nice one, black.

All exhaust is double wrapped from the exhaust ports to the downpipe near the cat converter.

Today, I got more done. Hopefully I'll have it streetable in a few days. I've been putting in 6-10 hours a day. But I'm not rushing things. Each step I take is thought out carefully. I take the time to cover all the details. I have learned going the slower route actually saves time. Otherwise, rushing things will most likely cause mistakes that take more time in the long run.

I wish I wore gloves when wrapping the exhaust. That material sheds little fibers and my hands feel like I was wading through poison ivy. Sooo itchy.

I have the oxygen sensors installed. Welded up the bungs today. Getting some sensors wired. It is A LOT of work.

Today, my oil feed flange that rests on the turbo snapped. I have JB Welded it together but I am planning to have to purchase another. Cheap aluminum welding. Oh well, if that is the worst of it, it's ok.
