  • Opinions on foam 'dome' style air filters?

Anyone ever use one of those dome shaped foam filters like this one:

I have a large cone filter right now and its inhaling a lot of air hot off the crossover. I was looking for something smaller, but I don't want to loose air flow. I came across these foam dome filters and they don't cost much. I just don't know if they filter the air as well as a conical filter can and if they flow as good. What I like about them is their compact size. If I use one of these filters I could get it a little further away from the crossover and maybe fabricate some kind of heat shield around it.

Any opinions? Facts? Anything, regarding this style of filter?

I know that they are big in the import crowd. My buddies 400hp Supra has one, it can't be that bad! Try one out and let us know.

smaller = less filter surface area = more restriction

however, it looks like that would fit into a Wbody fender well alot nicer!

Any one on another forum dyno one yet?

I have one just because it is the only thing that would fit. They seem to be decent buy I have heard that bits of foam can get sucked off (this may only happen on a turbo motor though) and through the system.

The "smaller = less filter surface area = more restriction" would be true if it were of the same material, comparing a mushroom foam filter to a cone paper one is like apples and oranges.

Foam filters are very popular on dirt bikes. I remember my old one had a dual layer foam filter on it.
