  • OBD1 comp swap for v8 application

OK I came here for this....
    4L80....have the same sensors as a 4T80?

Or easier, can a obd1 truck computer be made to shift a 4T80?

Reason being, I"M BROKE! and i need to make this 4.0L aurora motor work in my 86 olds 88. And the stock computer is a cross between the obd 1.5 and obd2 so I'll call it the OBD 1.75.

And no one has anything to program it. Which is very surprising since the damn motor was used at Indy, and dominated Indy for 5+ years.

It's tax season, so i got some cash. and yes I know about CHRFAB and they're pre-programed Holley Commander 950 for $1200 but that dont help me with the 4T80. Which would cost me an additional $800 for a seperate tranny controller. THERE MUST BE A WAY!
sigpicHow to make High performance Emissions:
A "true" High flow converter, straight pipe.
Low/No flow EGR valve, block off plate.
Carbon canister and purge valve mod, place in large 30 Gallon can, cover, and place curbside, the city will do the rest.
PCV valve and vent tube, reroute to exhaust to dump where it belongs, on the ground. Or add breathers and let it all free.

FAST would be the fastest way about it from when I looked into it.

one of the 93-95 Truck ECMs that controlled a 4l60e would work, though it may need a lot of calibration.

the 4.0 Aurora uses the the northstar specific PCM, and you're right, no one has done much about them. not sure why, but it's not very supported. there have been NS motors run on 1227727/30, but they didn't have the added complexity of needing to shift a trans that uses a pressure control solenoid...

the 4l80 SHOULD have roughly the same sensors, but the gearing could be an issue.

you can run a 93-95 truck ECM specifically as a TCM, and then a 7727/30 to run the engine...
1995 Monte Carlo LS 3100, 4T60E...for now, future plans include driving it until the wheels fall off!

A better choice would be to get a transmission control module from a 91-93 diesel truck with a 4L80E in it. It's already specifically controlling JUST the transmission. There's a thread on the A-body forums where a guy went from a 4T60 to a 4T65-E HD using one of those diesel truck tcms. Most of his info would be relevant to your swap as well...

Here's a link to his thread on the a-body forum.

Wow. that's neat. Are those TCM hacked as in tuneable?

Yeah, they're tuneable. The guy on a-body used tunercat to tune his tcm.
