  • Any energy drinkers here?

My wife hates the fact I like energy drinks. What kinds do you guys drink? I like Redbull, but won't buy it because it's too expensive. I prefer Rockstar ($1.99 for 24oz) and Rip-It ($1.09 for 24 oz), but I found these two on youtube that I might try...

I had a gratuitous amount of energy today. I wanted to get hot in the garage so I had 2 Rip-Its, lol. I ran wrenches like a Kenyan.

          +1

Although, I do enjoy the taste of a monster or a AMP.

When I used to get hot in the factories I used ephedrine and caffeine. I'm sure my heart thanks me that I don't do that anymore.

The best energy booster is regular exercise to keep your body on the efficient side of the metabolic process. I had a habit of taking Vivarin (caffein tablets) before exams (instead of studying on schedule to avoid cramming) until one day I lost track of the number I had taken, I had never been that sick before and still haven't. Took months for my nervous system to recover from it (hyperactivity where an alarm clock waking me up would provoke an internal adrenal shot causing my heart rate to accelerate probably as high as 200 beats per minute for a short while).

Caffein will raise your heart rate which is okay within your limitations and that depends on your health which is important because heart disease tends to let you know by surprise their is a problem by giving you a problem.

There was a resent news story about energy drinks, I just don't recall what it was about (because I don't drink them) specifically but it wasn't good. Coffee is scientifically proven to benefit the thought processes in the elderly if there are any in that age range.

I only do coffee now which I've been off of for about three weeks to prove to myself I'm not addicted to it. Moderation is the key. I had an echocardiogram performed because of occasional heart hiccups (ectopic beats that you can feel movement wise in your chest). Everything checked out fine however, coffee was the only thing I was drinking at the time that may have been the cause or at least contributed to it.

You can't get ephedrine based drinks anymore or at least not as easily because one too many people died after using it. Some people take too much of a good thing and that's often when the health risks are revealed. I believe ephedrine also caused vasoconstriction which in a combined manner made it more dangerous. Never studied it but I believe it may have had that effect in addition to elevating the heart rate among other things.

Maximum safe heart rate = 220 minus your age. If you have high blood pressure, high cholesterol or diabetes and are taking medication for any of those diseases it will likely be less.

              Be safe.

I do one cup of coffee in the mornings, and sometimes none at all. Rarely will drink a caffeinated drink period.

My friend had some Cuban coffee at his shop one morning, that was interesting

man, you're hardcore.. that's gotta get expensive

I usually have 1 cup of coffee in the mornings at work, Just the little boost gets me out of my desk chair and out in the shop where i belong. The only energy drink i'll go near is Budweiser Tilt (the green 8%). 2 of those and i can port heads all night.

I get the occasional heart hiccups (maybe once a month, no rhyme or reason). I don't drink energy drinks all the time. I go in spurts, kind of like an on off cycle just to keep from getting too much junk piled up in my system that isn't good from them. I can't stand the taste of coffee. If I drink it, I have to really doctor it up and make it taste more like a cappuccino. One guy told me once they did a study on people who drink a lot of coffee when they get up as part of their regular "waking ritual" if you want to call it that. He said that their brainwaves are lower in activity of someone who doesn't drink coffee, but after they drink it their brainwaves go back up to that of a normal level because of the long term effect of what coffee does to you and how your body gets used to it. I've really never heard anything good about energy drinks but after being laid off for 21mos/24mos, a good kick in the pants to get moving is a welcome thing. I've been wanting to get into a workout routine and start an exercise program for some time. Heck, I've used my home gym once since we've been in this house (going on 3 years...) and my wife got a really nice Nordictrac treadmill last year. My only excuse is it can be started tomorrow. So right there lies my problem, lol.

It almost sounds like an oxymoron like Jagerbombs, lol. I did see a thing on TV years ago saying large amounts of Jagerbombs was very dangerous though :/ Something about the chemical in Red Bull making your brain think you aren't getting as drunk as you are, so you drink way more.
