  • some cars and their MPG???

Okay my car IS slow and gassy, and I don't feel like spending any more money into fixing it up. Wondering what you guys think of the following cars as far as getting good MPG goes..

    -Alero (3400)
    -3.1 Z24/5-speed
-L67 GTP - I'm thinking horrible cause the car is big, more cubes, and needs at least 91 for the blower (no flaming please)

thats all I can think of right now.. I'm thinking Alero as my first choice since they aren't rust buckets yet (as opposed to Z24). Any other suggestions are welcome.

what about just swap in a good 3.1L into your GP? I mean, my 92 was getting 33 on the highway and the STE gets 29.5 on the highway and its got 160K+ and needs some tranny work

According to my DIC I'm getting a little over 30MPG at best (going 50-60MPH). Goes down a little bit progressively as I go faster.. I'm not really sure about city MPG. Point is the car is slow, needs work and I want something good, quick, and not gonna eat a hole in my wallet. Dropping a 3.1 in my GP would be an ineffective way to solve the problem.. plus for the cost of the upgrade/fixing other shit I could easily find another cheap 1st gen w-body.

for real. All are under $1000 and most are $300....$350 if the motor and trans work

That is a cool idea.. I'd like to do that eventually but I need a car right now.

I don't want another one. #1 they are too rusted up #2 they are slow. Want something newer (no rust) and quicker. Yeah I could look for a GTP or Z34 but I don't want to work on a LQ1, and the older Regals (3800) do nothing for me.

My 95 GTP averages in the low 30's, or well did last year. Still hasn't been driven since it was put in storage last fall.

Last tank I got 32mpg using the trip meter that had been reset the previous fill up and divideing that by how many gallons it took to fill it back up. Thats with about half and half city and highway driving. Not bad for a car that reached 100K miles last year. I got 100,800 miles now!!! WOOHOO!

If you want fuel economy then go look at a car with a diesel like a Used VW or something. diesel is like $.50 cheaper a gallon and those cars get in the 50's for mpg. Plus there are some good mods for them. A little VW golf would not be bad. The room a Z24, the fuel economy of a hybrid and well the looks of a pregnant roller skate.

Over $12K invested, and still its slow. Maybe thats because thats most all repairs. Don\'t knock the engine though, because thats the only part that has seemed to last.

Ehh, for the effort you can get an Alero for around $4000 US or $6500 Canadian (just did a quick autotrader search)

probably a better bang for the buck than an old W-Body.. And besides, if you got a L67 GTP, you better have fire insurance!

I can easiely buy a couple old w-bodies.. but thats the point- I'm tired of old POS cars that I have to work on all the time. I haven't seen any Aleros for $6500 (unless they are really high milege or have something wrong with them), but there are good ones for around $9k Canadian, which isn't too bad for a fairly new car.

Lease a Cavalier. $160 a month and you get warrenty to fix all the problems. Trade it in, in 3 years get another and your back in the warrenty again. Never have to pay for anything but regular maintence. Heck the Cobalt will be out soon and I think thats a pretty slick little car.

No sense leasing a cavalier if you cant get into them. Or else thats what I would be driving.
