I manage a parts store in Marinette, Wi.... K&N actually makes the R P filters for Royal Purple...so all the info i got on it points to them basically being the same thing. Hope this helps.

While both are made from the same manufacturer.
        They are different.

K&N is built like a tank with high flow oil in GPM in mind.
(filtering is is not a priority.)

Mobil 1 is for fine filtering & it flows well too.

To me flow is more important than filtering in a performance application.

But almost anything flows well for the GA.
But I can't get over people using a Purolator PureOne oil filter.

& stay away from Fram based filters.
& leave it to Honda North America, Nissan North America to use them

For me: NAPA Gold, aka: Wix & Carquest Premium Blue oil filters.
They are decently built & flow more oil GPM than a stock AC Delco oil filter.

Note in Canada: Wix is use to manufacture AC Delco "c" version oil filters for GM.
ie: AC Delco PF-47c oil filter.

Whats wrong with purolator? I thought they were good? I don't get their gold or premium whatever it is though cause of that sand texture surface they spray all the way to the top with over spray on the top and inside...

I don't think I've seen a C version of AC Delco... wonder what C means other than made by wix?

The Purolater PureONE filter is an excellent filter, but there have een some concerns that the filtering media is almost TOO good, and restricts oil flow.
Take it for what it's worth.

ive been using the napa gold or wix equivalent on the subaru. on the GA ive been using up the pf-52's i bought. bought 2 or 3 of them last time i went and i think i still got one left.

but since the news of the substandard ac delco filters ill be switching to napa gold's or wix. whichever parts store i decide to stop at.

couldnt tell you about the C thing it must be something to do with canada. Eric you live in canada have you ever seen this.

                EDIT

ok this is all i could find on the ac delco filters with the C in them.
guess they are polish made for ac delco.
Hey folks. It's been so long since I posted that I can't remember my password . . . changed my email too . . . so I had to register again... Anyway, I got a case of AC Delco PF47C filters from a Canadian Chevy dealer selling on eBay . . . good price . . . $2 per filter delivered. They are white...

and this is what they look like

some recently discovered info thanks to Crazy K of w-body.com...

There is a THIRD type of PF52 oil filter. this ones appears to be a VARIATION CHAMPION LABS DESIGN.

the "normal" pf52 is made by WIX and has a strong metal base, with a perforated metal tube in the center.

the "champion labs" pf52 has a "wire cage design" that is made of weak plastic with large holes and is susceptible to failure.

the "new filter" seems similar to the champion labs filter but instead of having the plastic cage, it has a solid plastic tube with holes perforating it, and the holes are M&M sized......

Interesting. Mine has the plastic cage. Which direction does the oil flow? Around the outer edge and through the center?

the outside is the unfiltered part. it goes through the filter and continues through it's intended path through the center hole.

I use Napa Gold filters in all of my vehicles, excellent quality and reasonably priced.
