Its that time of year again, when I head out to Vegas to attend the Autodesk University seminar. Basically, its a big CAD seminar put on by the makers of AutoCAD. Usually about 12,000 people show up. This is my 4th year going, but its different every year and I end up learning more and more each year. Unfortunately this year will be mostly work and no play. The classes usually go from 7am-6pm, then there is activites in the evening. And then, after all of that, I still have a project that I need to work on that goes out next week. So yeah, when I'm not in class, I'll most likely be in the hotel room working.

On a good note, I do plan on skipping a class on Thursday to go see the top 12 NASCAR drivers drive up and down the strip.

I usually find other ways to occupy myself to avoid gambling. Depending on how stressed out I am on working on my actual project work, I may end up in the Casino for a little while. And I'll keep the video slots in mind.

I wonder if any of the slots take Paypal. Hmm....

Just an FYI...

Working on AutoCAD via VPN on a Sprint Wireless card SUCKS!!!

I only brought $150 (plus my Company credit card), and that has to last me the entire trip. So far I've spent $12 on shuttle fees and $22 on a buffet. But, from here on out, all meals and such should be covered by the Conference. If I do head down to the Casino, I will probably only bring $20, just to keep any temptations down.

meh.. they're good for occupying your time but if you want to win the higher denoms are your best bet.

Penny slots are 80-85% payback (rarely over 90).. dollar slots are typically 95-97. Higher than that and the % drops, $5 slots are usually around 92%. Video poker machines are typically set up at 95-99% because the casinos know that most people suck at poker. Keno is by far the worst thing to play in a casino.

I'm tired and its only the end of day 1!! Yesterday I was on the clock (best way to put it) for 16.4hrs (3.4 was working on my project). Today was 15.2hrs, with only 0.2hrs on my project. I probably need to work on it more, but I am just beat right now! And to think I still have basically 2 more days of this, plus a day of travel. Well, at least its building up my comp time balance.

Hopefully tomorrow I'll get a chance to talk to some of the 3D scanner people about scanning parts to then import into AutoCAD or Inventor. I have some things in mind and it would be a lot easier to start with a generated model and edit it than try to model something from scratch. I did spend ~2hrs tonight talking to large scale 3D scanner companies for use at work (scan a building to generate a floorplan from). Really interesting stuff actually.

What I am more looking for right now is companies that do it for a fee. Therefore, I could send them a part, they scan it and generate the model file, then send it and the file back to me. The cost of the scanner right now just isn't feasible for the current amount I would need it for, but I can't imagine it costing too much for what I am looking for. We'll see...
