  • looking for this air compressor part

ok so ive looked all over and even used the numbers on the starter itself but come up with with either dead links or dead ends.

so i turn to you guys which might deal with these kind of things more than me.

ive tried going to campbell's site directly but all i can find from them is the whole electric motor, which i dont need.

basically i need one of the starters on top on the motor
its a 7hp 15amp motor that runs on 220 prob find it listed as 230 or 240v.

Grainger, MSC, Nothern Tool perhaps. That's just a normal start-up capacitor, you just need to match the values. They come on everything from drill presses, to compressors, to the big drop-band saws. I think I may have picked one up at a Sear's service center (for appliance parts/warranty repair etc).

Any electrical supply house should be able to point ya where to get one local. Just a standard motor, we swap them out all the time at work.

Geldartb...My apologies for the temporary Thread Jack...

John... I know that you have no love for 'eVilbay' (although I'm not certain why you feel this way...) but there have been some times when I saved Major Money buying things off of eBay that I just could not find or afford any where else. For example, when my home AC Air handler motor went out in the attic unit... it was such an ancient unit (like me...) that I just could NOT find a replacement for the dissolved Air Impeller and aged electric motor locally and the AC companies wanted more than several thousand dollars to replace the entire unit. Remember that I'm a Retiree and live on a fixed income but I too believe in serving the local economy. And so I went to the local electrical supply depot down in Pinellas Park and then over to several AC Supply Companies in Largo and Clearwater. All I got from the men at their counters were weird looks when I could not supply some kind of "Jobber Account Number" and they refused to sell me anything other than an entire AC unit and then, only through their 'licensed and recommended companies'. This was very discouraging John and since you also live down here in the miserable heat and humidity of Florida, you more than most can appreciate why this is so.

But finally... it was 'eVilbay' that came to my rescue in that instance and many others by quickly finding somebody out their in this Phantasm Bush used to call "The Internets" that had the parts I needed...and for Dirt Cheap, too.

In the end, I located the right size impeller (albeit a Furnace Air Handler that had the blades in reverse ...so I simply mounted it from the top instead of the bottom of the air chamber so the air flow was correct) and a brand new matched electric motor with the starter ballast. Now all of that cost only:

                $158.00

After that... my family and I could return to sleeping the night through in ice cold air. So the only reason that I have a desktop search link for 'eVilBay' right next to my 'Google' button...is because they are often the last, best place of hope for getting whatever is needed ...without having to "Sell the Farm" to afford it.

well looks like i got to pull the numbers off the starter when i go down there. i had them written down but i cant find the paper.

but Grainger did have some start up capcitors. well 35 to be exact in the 220 range.

That actually does work, but you might be the 8 fingered man if you don't watch out!

We do it all the time to check rotation before we button everything up on some motors.

208v 3phase? LOL. If it does run backwards, swap any two wires, just like the brushless stepper motors I use in the R/C helicopter

Any 3 phase, I work on anything from 6v dc to 480 3ph ac. When you're dealing with things like fan motors it depends on which way it turns. One way blows air and the other turns it into an exhaust fan.

well i finally remembered to get the numbers off the capacitor on the compressor and found one that matched the numbers.

i went ahead and got 2 of them just in case the other one isnt up to par.

now when it isnt uber cold out ill get some more 3/4 pipe and continue building my hardline for the air.
