are the connectors there for the stereo still? or did some dumb bastard chop them off?
in this cavity for a stereo is there an antenna plug too? because if not, then there is probably an amp, and the part in the dash is more of a dummy than anything. the amp gets the hook up to the radio antenna and the part in the dash just controls the stations, and tells the rest of it the levels and balances and shit. the stereo in my regal didnt have an antenna plug in in the dash, i had to buy a 3' extension!! lol not that bad though, my grand marquis had the same set up... but worse. amp and shit was in the trunk, so i had to make a 20' wiring harness!! with a 25' antenna extension! it was the biggest pain in the ass stereo i ever installed. futureshop wanted over $100 for the wiring harness. fuck that noise. ill make one, or GO TO THE JUNK YARD!! haha thats where i found mine, went at the end of the day, had it coiled up into a 12" across by 6" tall donut (this was a HUGE umbilical cord of wires) and they told me to just walk out with it. thank you very much.

yeah all the wires are there...and none are cut...also i should note...there is also a plastic connector with 3 wires on it thats seperate from the wire harness that went into the radio...i dont know where it hooks to (i assume the radio) but it's the same length as the radio harness wires....i guess i'll have my boss look for a location of the amp...(i work in a garage) and i'll run the whole deal past him and make his brain work a bit HAHHA...thanx for the help so far

the three wire plug is for the steering wheel radio controls more than likely. and i bet if you follow the harness that has all the other wires in it you will find the amp not too far away, if it isnt in the trunk either inside the rear 1/4 by the wheel or under the rear window where the speakers are.
on a fast search from google i found this, have a look around i bet you can handle this on your own.

i goit it fixed...the 3 wires i talked about are for cd audio or aux audio if the radio was equipped with it....i was told to look UNDER THE DASH...so i did...i follwed the wires and it was RIGHT UNDER THE GLOVE BOX....reach up...give a squeeze on top and bottom or harness...and slide out...TADA...no wires to cut...just left it unplugged...and now no more weird measurements with ohm meter...and speakers work
