Okay...Since this is the first time I've ever heard of a Pontiac Fiero Mera, I Googled this up about the car. The one in her Garage looks just like these...only ..."Instead-Of-Red"... Her car is the Yellow Flavored one... It's interesting that there were only 247 of these vehicles ever made...and the dude in this article has his valued at around $43,000.00... WOW! The mystery deepens....

I hate to correct you 60dgrzbelow zero because you sound like a very intelligent man, but I dont think that a 3.1L is in that car, at least not stock. Now, my info could be wrong, because Im learning as I go as well. The largest V6 that actually went into production for the Fiero was the 2.8L. LOL more fuel for the fire (or pondering! lol) I am REALLY curious about this car. I am a Fiero enthusiast and I dont even own one!!

Man, imagine if the 1990 prototype Fiero made it to production, a C4 corvette getting stomped by a 660 in a crazily underweight car? Purely awesome. If you notice with the prototype though, the gauge cluster is the exact same as a 4th gen firebird's cluster and the rims closely resemble the 3rd generation Transam rims.

This car was a work of art. And the thing that makes it better is the fact that GM built the car around a 660 which truly shows GMs intentions to make our little V6s performers.

the only V6 to go in a fiero was the 2.8, specifically, the L44.

EDIT: what is the eight digit of the VIN? that should determine what it should have came with. i know certain Pontiac 6000s had the option of a 3.1, maybe the Fiero did as well.

EDIT: This is the engine that was to be used in the prototype Fiero in 1990

Not to worry... Nobody ever bothers to make any appeals to my "Intellectual Vanity" in this level-headed place (which is probably a good thing...since I already suffer from such a terrible excess of personality in the "Real World" as it is) and so...likewise... I'm very hard to insult in that regard and I'm fairly thick-skinned, so my feelings won't ever be hurt by your excellent criticism. I often learn best when people yank hard on my "reins"..from time to time...

Nonetheless...the engine in that car may yet turn out to be a 3.1L motor. You see... what I forgot to add to the story was that Chris mentioned her Dad allowed someone to drive the car very hard and he destroyed the original engine. After much ado...Her Dad installed another motor ...and apparently decided to put a 3.1L Block in there. The information about that engine being "... a 3.1L V6"...came from HER...not from me. . The real problem is that I would not know one from the other, since I have no experience with the Fiero Car Line Series... and hence, my being as anxious as everyone else is to peek inside the "Trunk" to see what really is hiding in there for us to see and study...and of course...memorialize what can be seen with bookoo photos... When I can glom those images and post them here in this thread...then you'll have an uncommon opportunity of explaining to us all what really is powering that weird car!

Good ol' Wikipedia! Apparently, it was termed as a Fiero Mera and was actually dealer option, but it was still a kit. I think it looks awesome. And wow! Look at the prototype for 1990 doesnt it have the essence of a 4th gen Firebird? And is that a 3.4L DOHC under the "hood"? And it goes on to say that the prototype would have been faster, cheaper and better handling than the Corvette.....amazing, but why did they axe such a great car???
Looks like an LQ1 to me. But then, I am biased. Backwards, but yep! LQ1! Kinda has that DOHC look.
If you are driving a Chevy, everything else, is just a blur. 3.4 Carbon Footprint.

I'm not surprised that the fiero can be so easily disguised. Here's my '87 Fiero. It's got a Turbo'd LQ1 to match the looks. Gotta give the the ricers a run for their money

I live in a neighborhood that has the most eclectic and bizarre combination of owned vehicles, anywhere around. Have a gander at these images, Men.... still has the horrible fiero intake... which IIRC means it has to be an iron head motor.

After telling Christine about this site...

...and bringing her up to speed about the alleged rarity, limited production and value of the car... Her eyes went "Tilt".. rolled back in her head... and before I could say anything past. "...and he estimates the value of a brand new one of these at around $43,000.00..." I then asked about her prior intractable position of "Never, Ever wanting to sell that car..." and she completely reversed her opinion and would sell it now at the best price she can get! Of course ...at the moment...its in anything but pristine order and condition, mind you...

it's got plenty of potential, and from the pics, it didn't look to be in too bad of condition.... i would say swap in a newer motor, not necessarily anything special, and get it going.

John... Please send me either your or your friend's asking price for the Fiero Motor and I'll ask the girl if she is interested in the idea of putting in a fresher engine in the Mera...

Ugh!!! I cant see the Pics!!!!! My work network will not allow me to see photobucket pics, it blocks me!!!! Ohhh the humanity!!! I guess Ill just have to wait till I get home to see them........"sigh"

So, it turns out that it actually is a Mera, lol and you never knew! Man she has a gold mine sitting in her garage and didnt know it. I love scenarios like this, it sounds like she is in dire need for some cash and nothing could help better than having a collectors car sitting in her garage, but now someone will purchase this car, restore it, and baby it for the rest of its life. Wow I just wish I could see these pics...NOW! haha its ok though Im just glad that it turned out to be a Mera.
