  • help 92 3.1 idles rough then dies

I have a 92 3.1 mpfI motor that I am putting in a buggy it is a 7730 ecm everthing is in and wired up it has started and idled ok but had to keep at high idle the first couple of times then we hooked all the water hoses up. now when we run it. it idles good but kinda high yet (1500 ish no tach)for 3-5 min then idles rough and dies.. it wll start back up but is hard starting and smells really rich like it flooding any ideas will help the time it run is almost the same everytime like something is shutting it down...thanks

i want to say the O2 is junked since it sounds like its dying as soon as it hits closed loop...

ok with that said we might be cause the problem because we took the connector pipe off between the manifold and used those flanges to run a u shaped pipe to the outside of the frame and blocked off orginal manifold outlet basicly making dead air were the o2 sensor is at now,, think we could move it back into the new pipe with just 3cyc running threw it and make it work thanks

that would definitely cause issues. and reading three cylinders is better than none.

depends on a few variables, namely coolant temp, how the o2 is responding, and how long the engine has been running. depending on your BCC, i can get you those values.
