  • Where Have I Been?....The New Ride

I haven't been around here as much lately, and sadly that's because I haven't been in my Grand Prix as much lately. Thought I would share what has been keeping me away...

I recently picked up a 1994 Corvette. It is an LT1 6 speed car and incredible fun to drive! The only mods thus far are shorty headers and Magnaflow 3" dual catback exhaust. Oh, and I disabled skipshift (terrible idea GM!). It certainly does move!

    The pics:

    Future upgrades:
-rear gear (currently has 3.45s, thinking 4.11s since 6th in this car is .5!) Hopefully this winter pending where the car is kept.
-head work: if Ben is willing I'd send the heads his way, he did a great job on my 3.4 heads
-cam, no clue on specs yet, 1.6 roller rockers, springs etc etc

My car count is now up to 3, and my head is spinning on what to do!

        Thanks guys!
I'm just sad I got it so late in the summer and need to put it away soon!

I really like the C4 - I think it has a more stealthy look than the C5. And it isn't so refined to lose its musclesportscarness.

        Sofa:
Skip Shift is something GM implemented on the ZF 6 speed Vette tranny and I believe also on the BorgWarner T56 F-body trans. Under certain conditions (low throttle input) and under ~20 mph, a solenoid mechanically forces your shift from 1st gear into 4th - its basically like someone pulling the stick to center when you attempt a 1-2 shift. Some say it was to clear sound requirements, others and likely the correct reason was to make the EPA happy and save some gas. What it really is, is an annoyance. The reason I buy stick cars is because I want to be in control... I don't need a computer telling me how to shift!

i would have guessed the complete opposite!! i would figure it would stop people from skipping gears like that! thats the stupidest thing ive heard of...
what if ya gotta go, do ya rev it in neutral first or hope third can take it?? haha

Ya, its a brainfart of an idea. What is worse is as they age they start to do some even weirder things. Mine for instance didn't even allow for the 1-4 shift instead it would just lock it in 1st! It has a light indicating when it is active so I would just give it more gas or let off the gas for a few seconds and it would deactivate, but that also meant a constant eye on the dash. Thankfully, up to 1995 you can disable it simply by pulling the connector on the trans. The dash light still comes on indicating "1 to 4" but it is disabled. When they went to OBD II in 96 it has to be disabled through the ecm otherwise it is CEL time.

Found out the 94 LT1 is reflashable through the ALDL via TunerCat... pretty pumped!

I think you can defeat it in OBDII by putting a resistor in there that has the same resistance as the coil of the solenoid so it thinks it is activating but it's not...
