  • Weighed the Monte today

We got to use the scales today in my chassis fab class so I decided to weigh the monte. It came out to 3458lbs. Perfect 50-50 ratio from right to left but it has a 65-35 ratio from front to rear.

In comparison we weighed an 89 trans am that came out to 3350lbs and a late 90s early 2000s mustang gt that came out to 3292lb.

Those numbers seem kinda high, but maybe its the car. I've taken my 1995 GAGT 2 door V6 auto to the scales a few years ago, with nothing in the car, spare tire, stereo, and other bs, it tipped the scale just a hair under 2500.

Those numbers are about right for a monte carlo. I dont see how you got 2500lb with a grand am V6. The curb weight on those grand ams are closer to 2900-3000lb.

Beretta GT ~ 2900 lb and a Corsica ~ 2650 lb. Seems kinda light for a Grand AM as it is a much more solid car than a Corsy

Believe me, I thought the same thing. Back in 04, I took it to 2 scales, I got one saying 2550, it had the spare and the speaker box in it, then took those out and came in at 2490 at another scale. The car stock with a lil short ram intake ran a 14.8 and a 14.9 at 91 and 92 down at morrosso in west palm. Never dyno'd the car, but the car felt light, I cant tell you how many times the back end came around on me till I got the Falken Azenis tires put on. I know the 99 and up put on alot of weight, those were in the 3000 pound range for sure, my 95 is almost as small as a 2 door 97-98 cavi since the guy next door has one.

I don't see how the older n-bodies would weigh that little or they'd be faster than the newer n-bodies. That's a 600-700 lb difference with only 20 Hp/ft-lbs less. I'm curious though and I'd verify it if there was a chassis scale nearby.

Ever think that the scrap yard that you weighed yours at is jipping the recyclists on weight to pocket some spare cash? Then here comes a guy wanting to know their cars poundage to only receive under scaled numbers...

I suggest taking it to the "weigh masters" you often see on the side of the expressways. Those are very accurate and they don't charge if you catch them on a good day.

Seems light for the T/A too. I have a '90 and a motor that weighs ~300lbs less than the small block, need to finish it up and get her weighed

What the hell GA weighs 2500 pounds and runs 14.8??

Having a hard time with this one passing the "sniff test" without some 'splaining!

My Beretta gets weighed every year at the start of the race season and is right at 2850.

scales were off, no way the GA is that light. I worked on a '98 GT a while back and it's alot more car than my Z24 which weighs about 2800 with me in it.

well it was a certified scale, not a bone yard, but yes it was a scape metal yard. Its possible, but right now the engine is not in the car, nor the 282 tranny. As soon as everything comes together, I will re weigh the car. On another note though, my gagt is about the same size as a 97 2 door cav, its small. And yes, it did run a 14.8 was its fastest time, stock internals, just a short ram intake with a big cone filter on the end. Back in 04, I blew the original motor that was in it at 165K, car has been sitting ever since. Give you an idea of how old, I'm using the Phatom Grip LSD unit in the diff.

If all that thing had was a short WAI then 14.8 at 1000 feet would be in the realm of believability!

Now I have raced at Moroso Park, although it's been a few years and it was called Gainesville then, and it's a tad farther than that to the Finish Line unless they are now using the T/F and Funny Car limits.

He said 282... so if it had a 3100 with a swapped 282 then I could see a 14.8 maybe...

My car is close to 3000 if not more and I ran a 16.0 stock (other than a muffler). My window sticker says 165hp not 155, and 189 tq.

I can't stop you from believing the bullshit people feed you. 2500 pounds with the auto? Sorry, that 95 grand am weighs more than 100 pounds more than my MGB stock.
