only good part about the whole thing was the dude showed me a all wheel steering 240sx they had that was in crappy body shape, it was so sad, like a neglected unicorn for nissan junkies. if he had offered that up-i woulda been all over that shit.

there just werent any positives to that nissan other than it not being stolen or have an odo discrepancy, but with 210k miles on it i dont think it really matters.
i'm not sure why but all wheel steering is something i've always been interested in. Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 came with it i think, always wanted to see just how different it was...

same with me, & ive never heard of a 240sx with it before, the kid was telling mepeople offered him $5k & he didnt take it so i didnt even offer my truck.

either way, if you guys could have seen the crappy backwoods area we were in with no civilization for 20 miles & nothing but hills & neighbors that all looked the same-i swear i was waiting to see that old truck...

they said they just wanted a truck for around the farm & if they had wanted to there would have been nowhere to run for 20 miles of pea-gravel, unmarked roads, 50 ft hills & valleys, NO cell service, & 90* corners with creeks on the other side. im 6'1" & stocky, very unafraid of most things & this place downright scared the hell out of me.

i know you guys probably wouldnt have noticed but im dead serious that post saying im going to get the 280 very well could have been my last-silence of the lambs-locked in a hole-"it puts the lotion on the skin" style.

i guess it exists, but it is limited to 1* of movement, basically within the tolerance of a bad alignment...

yup-i seen the hydraulic pump & steering components, looked like it had the potential for a lot more tilt but i doubt it takes much

There were 1st gen DSMs that had it... as well as the 3kGT. I know the Galant VR-4 and first gen GSX cars could get it as an option.

Late 80's-early 90's Honda Prelude 2.0Si's had it too. On the door pillar it will have a badge that says "4WS". I had a friend that had one and I guess it handled really nice.

yea ive heard about that-at lemans or some big race (i dont remember the name) the 4ws prelude handled better than the $100,000.00+ sports cars.

I prefer the even lighter earlier 240z.

I completly disagree with your engine swap choices especially the SR20det and rb20det. The hybrid LD2.9 is good for this retro car OR just swapping a modified or hybrid VG30ET. Save that other crap for an overpriced 240SX project which should have gotten a LS1 in the first place.

And a aluminum Gen 3 V8 engine is the best application.

All wheel steering on the Nissans is called HICAS. Its on US cars like 240sx, 300zx, and J30/Q45/M30. Its a solenoid basically in the back that kicks the wheels in direction to help with handling. My AWD 6000 needs something like this <grin>

GM made a Camaro mule with all wheel steering, i think it only turned within maybe 2-3*... 1* on a production car seems right.

quite true. third-gen camaros are always hot... ones that turn all four wheels: even more so.

it was in one of my hot rod or car craft magazines from like 97-98. had a bunch of other stuff as well, like a AWD 5.0LT1(style) Lumina, another Lumina that had a small-block 5 speed combo that was rotated like 20* and had a rear-end in front of the motor(kind of like a strange eldorado/riviera/toronado setup), a twin engine vette(v8 in front and i think a 2.8 in the rear). thats about the only issue i can't find from my subscription back then...

                                lmao a v8 AND a 2.8? someone at gm was hittin the bottle pretty hard, you might as well go 2 v8s, a v8 & 4 cyl, or v8 & 3.1-why a 2.8, it just seems a bit whacky.

& id LOVE to own one of those test-luminas, but wikipedia says their location is unknown-has anyone ever seen one for sale or seen one outside of an auto show, if at all?
