  • anyone like 280z's?

well today my gf happened to stumble upon a rare find. a datsun 280z in nice shape with the stock straight 6 engine & 5 speed trans, runs & drives!! i talked to the owner & were swapping the datsun for my 91 ram 4x4 sometime tomorrow afternoon or evening.

the way i see it these things weigh 2800lbs with a cast iron straight 6, & if i stuff the lq1 into that instead of the lumina i should end up with 2600 or 2700lbs & rwd, which would be nice due to the size of these engines & thats less hp that i will need to be able to take my buddy's Z.

either im getting it, painting & fixing it up a bit (it doesnt need much), & selling it, or im going to put this LQ1 in it. what do you guys think, & if so is there anyone in the ohio region that is interested in a running 165hp 2.8 I6 & matching 5 speed trans attached?

somebody could have one hell of a neat s-10 :P

A friend of mine took one of those and stuffed an old 350ci Chev in it. The thing screamed. Keep it and cram a v8 into it.

        v8

they can be a fast and fun car but you dont put a v8 into it. it screws up the weights and balance of the car. choose either an vg30et, rb20det or sr20det. just as much power available and lighter.

well i drove 1.5 hours only to get lost for another hour in the backwoods hilly BFE with half the roads not named & yahoo maps lying to me about the location of other roads, & when we did find the place the car looked terrible with 20 dif kinds of paint & 1/4 done poorly done bondo (not a big deal, bondo & paint can fix that), 210k miles, plywood on parts of the interior, part of the dash missing, the ac or pollution pump disconnected, more hoses than ive ever seen in my life under the hood, & the damn thing wouldnt even start & idle!

he got it to seemingly idle poorly by hold it wide open, but that was short lived. & then his buddy who was his car guy had the balls to criticize my truck for 10% unfinished bondo on the front fenders, because it needs a bed, & said he was surprised it even made it that far (it runs & drives fine).

so needless to say i said screw it and didnt trade him, im just going to fix up the turck a little more, sell it, & put the money into the lumina to make it take my buddy's 370z.

no_doz: before you cause some kind of space-time vortex, pick an idea and stick with it.

want a hell of an idea? get a VW Beetle, pull off the body panels, stick in the LQ1/whatever tranny you see fit and go fucking nuts. i don't know about what else might need to be changed, but its a solid idea.

EDIT: you'll need to run cooling stuff all the way up to the front, i know that will need done.

sorry but im not trading a good running 4x4 for a non running 210k miles 40 color bondo plywood nightmare-even if it does make you guys happy. we spent 5 hours driving to & from this pos.

Did you not see pictures of it before you drove that far? The original post said it was a car in nice shape. The way you describe it after seeing it, pictures should have been able to tell you it wasn't in nice shape. Or ask for additional pictures before driving that far to do a trade. And you were going to trade him a trade w/o a bed? WTF...

You always talk about doing research, yet it appears that you failed in your research yet again.

yea he showed me pictures of it before it got hit, spraypainted, poorly bondo'd, and plywooded. he also told me it ran & drove good! the glass also had chips & shit, other than the supposedly working turn signals, the car was not at ALL what it was presented to be. too good for $400 indeed.

he told me that all this damage was recent-AFTER we drove all that ways-& he told me "it just stopped running this morning", if i wasnt a big damn lie i would have been happy to get it, im flexible-but im not a moron.

anyone here want to trade their good running vehicle for a 1980 non running crappy looking high mileage plywooded partial poorly bondo'd POS that has virtually no positives & is located in an area that looks like your in the movie deliverance?

also what do you mean trade him a trade without the bed WTF? the trucks in decent to good bodily shape & runs great, has never given us problems, but the bed sides were crap so we cut them off & now its a flatbed, he knew this beforehand as well, & really wanted to trade-but that car was junk!

i wouldn't touch that datsun, it sounds like a real piece of shit, as do the owners.

yea it was, a real POS that the kid claimed had a $600 exhaust on (bullshit) & that his buddy put $1500 in it & he was just done messing with it.

only good part about the whole thing was the dude showed me a all wheel steering 240sx they had that was in crappy body shape, it was so sad, like a neglected unicorn for nissan junkies. if he had offered that up-i woulda been all over that shit.

there just werent any positives to that nissan other than it not being stolen or have an odo discrepancy, but with 210k miles on it i dont think it really matters.
