  • 3.5L LX5 engine (intrigue)

It has been awhile since I have had to ask a question but I am curious on one issue that came up after I replaced the water pump which is a goglygook funk looking design, however the coolant system is self priming.

Anyway the repair was done no leaks no squeaks from the pump anyway, what I did do was apply hand force in and around the ac compressor for obvious reasons as I only had 3-5 inches to work with and about 16 or so bolt holding this lovely thing on, the front idler pulley had to be removed. I used my gloves and man handled this job without fear of losing knuckle skin so i may have bumped it a few times with my fist.

Now when reving the engine the shield plate or whatever is makes a squishy rattle sound and moves slightly by hand also makes the rattle sound when tapping it, is it possible that I may have pushed this shield in some somehow causing this noise?, AC works fine as usual.

Is this front piece on the pulley for the compressor servicable?, It is my understanding that most compressors in general are about the same.

The front piece on your a/c compressor is a clutch. Roughly, when the magnetic coil is energized it compresses against the pulley and turns the input shaft to your compressor and voila you have cold air. It is normal for you to be able to turn the clutch and it should move freely although the only thing you should worry about is the up and down and side to side movement of the pulley meaning that the bearings are failing within the clutch/pulley assembly which is a fairly easy and inexpensive fix and it does not require a new a/c compressor.

I can not seem to find just the front hub anymore, or atleast can not find a part listing for it, seems as though I can only buy the whole compressor.

I was looking at the whole clutch assembly a few weeks ago now advanced doesn't even have it on their site.

even factory air seems to have just the clutch assy.
