  • 88 z24 battery dies after driving a while-any idea

alternators been tested & is good, battery has been tested & is good, but even when not running the headlights or radio the battery drains & the car dies & wont start. any ideas as to what would cause this?

the car is a tad over 100 miles away & other than this problem it runs good, & id like to fix it & drive it back so any ideas as to whatc could be causing this-would be very helpful!!

You've got to start looking at wiring, then, I would think.

i know this, but does anyone know what wiring would be likely to cause such a problem?

Alternator power wire that feeds the energy to the battery would be a good place to look. It could also be the ground but you would likely have starting issues along with it. If the alternator has ever been replaced by a shop double check and make sure they didn't butcher the power wire where it attaches to the alternator. My brother took his car in to get looked at when I was out of town for a couple days and they tried saying it was the alternator (which had been replaced only weeks before). I had them give me the alternator to bring back to where it was purchased and they handed over the alternator with all of the connectors still attached. They literally chopped the wires right off! I immediately had them pull the car out of the shop and towed home. His issue was a bad coil pack anyway.

the owner just told me that the previous owner put a toggle switch on the alternator, think this might be the problem? LOL

One way to find out, 'eh? I would imagine that could definitely be a problem.
