    my 91 sunbird 3.1 wil not rev above 2000 rpm have replaced fuelpump and filter tps crank sensor plugs wires plugs ecm cleaned throttle body i am stumped need help cleaned egr valve 5spd car does this in neatrul and in gear

        is it knocking?

        If i remember right, a jumped timing chain can cause similar problems. might be worth pulling the front cover and having a look.

          no knocking starts right up and idles rather smooth

              clogged exhaust. disconnect pipe from manifold, and goose it. If it revs your converter is clogged.

              Converters don't just clog and fail.
              Something HAD to break it.

              99% its do to rich mixture.

              Check thermostat, make sure your car is reaching operating temps.

              Check ECT sensor, comp may think car is cold and running too rich trying to achieve operating temps.

              Check for major vacuum leaks, too much air will show lean on o2 and comp will make run rich to compensate.

              If you don't check the above and correct the problem, you'll eat your new converter
              sigpicHow to make High performance Emissions:
              A "true" High flow converter, straight pipe.
              Low/No flow EGR valve, block off plate.
              Carbon canister and purge valve mod, place in large 30 Gallon can, cover, and place curbside, the city will do the rest.
              PCV valve and vent tube, reroute to exhaust to dump where it belongs, on the ground. Or add breathers and let it all free.
