  • Choosing a cam for a boosted engine

So what do I do? I am supercharging my air cooled VW engine. Do I need to choose a specific cam when supercharging? Are cams that are denoted "turbo cam" a good choice or is that for turbos only and not for supercharging?

VW engines are not high compression motors. So they are good for boost already. What kind of duration and lobe centerline angles should I be looking at? Or do I just choose a cam based on the type of engine performance range I want?

W/ a Supercharger you want a long duration but a small overlap, basicly to allow the SC to build pressure in the Cyl.

W/ a turbo you want low-meduim duration and a small overlap to build exhaust pressure...
