  • Has anybody repaired broken W Body seats?

If you have an OLD W car I imagine you know what I am talking about. The front seats flopping forward without the need to hit the little lever on the back. It is just annoying in that if the passenger seat doesn't have a passenger in it and I stop suddenly it flops forward and then slams back.

Does anyone know exactly what has broken and why? If it doesn't require removing the cover off the seat I'd consider repairing it. Of course my car has the air bladder operated dual power seats which will probably complicate things.

They are made to do that. It only locks if you slam the brakes on.

Even brand new, the cars do that.

I was wondering because my 91 didn't have anything holding them in place either.

I was going to say, I don't remember them working on either of my cars ever since I've had them (10 years for the 91 O.O and 6-7 years for the 92).

What ya could do is just recline the seat back giving it that "gangsta" lean approach. It will not fly forward unless! You drive like an asshat!

If that were the case, then why when I 'slam' on the brakes does the seat go flying forward?

Also, if it were true that the seats were designed to be able to fold forward without using the release lever then what in the world is the purpose of the release lever on the back?

The seats will lock if you park in a "nose down" position (car pointing downhill).

The latch is there to manaully release them if they lock up. I have had them lock up before when I parked like that.

With the nose of the car pointing down, if that latch was not on the back, then you could not get into the back seat if your were pointing downhill.
