  • Towing with a Lumina

    Hello,

I can't seem to find many topics dealing with towing and the 3100 engine/tranny.

I do camping on the weekend and would like to use a small trailer on my 1999Lumina.

Does anyone here have any helpful suggestions/experience for towing for this type of vehicle (or similar) and engine? Is a transmission cooler highly recommended? Thanks.

    60 degree trailer towing

My 89 Z 24 owners manual says not recomended with a stick shift but I plan to, I don't think it will hurt anything as I plan on probably 900 lbs max. My 87 Fiero GT owners manual has towing info. Yes get a trans cooler with a automatic. For trailer hitches see.

My Beretta towed a trailer for most of it's life before it came to me, 60+ miles every day. I forget what the max towing weight is in the manual, I'd have to look. My car weighs a little less than your lumina, but has same engine/trans combo.

First mod when I got my car was to remove the heavy (sturdy!) trailer hitch!
