  • What do you know about BMWs?

Well, I've been thinking of changing up my cars a bit. I will always have the Trooper of course, but I've had some inquires on the I-Mark and I'd consider selling it.

Would it make me a bad person to want a BMW? Nothing over the top, say a late 80's early 90's 4-door 6-cyl. Is it reasonable to look for one in the $3000-$4000 price range, or is one like that going to be more trouble than it's worth?

I don't think it would make you a bad person for wanting one. I love 'em. I remember riding in Nico P.s mid 90s 3 series when Ben and I flew up to his place so Ben could buy his 5 speed DOHC Cutty. That thing was amazing. I guess he had M3 cams, exhaust, some suspension work done, and throttle in a bottle that was empty . We were flying down the freeway doing 80 with 4 of us in the car, me, Ben, Nico and Nico's friend. Well there was a mattress in the middle of our lane and he did an emergency swerve around it like we were doing 20. I don't recall feeling too much body sway through the whole thing either. If I ever make it out of this whole stupid economy and no job thing ok and eventually get making some decent money, I want to get a mid to late 90's 3 series (with an M3 being at the top of my list). So I say do it to it man! Just make sure you are getting a decent deal and not getting ripped off. Kelly blue book ftw!

I think I would go for a 3- or 5-Series. Looking for something in good condition, don't think this would be a project car, just a driver. But if I do get something as a project, I think it would be a Datsun 510, the poor man's BMW.

I had a 98 318ti 5 speed before my grand am, I wish I still had it as a summer/auto x car.... but it sucked in the snow and it was a 4 cylinder. I think they are rather simple to work on, but the only thing that sucks is there are a lot of dealer only parts. There are some things that I like about BMW, such as the suspension and steering are awesome, but there are other things that I like about American vehicles.

i know a bit about them. i have a buddy thats huge into them, ive learned alot. i built a turbo kit for his 86 325i. quick car for sure. we then ripped the engine out and put in a s38 out of a e36 and swapped that in. very agile cars, fun too. im thinkin about putting my built 3400 in one.. wooo

me and my dad got my mom a '92 318i convertable 5 speed a couple years back. total cost was$2200 after they came down from $6k(it was there for 2 years and we watched the price go down) she never cared about cars much until that thing. its a great car. be picky with the bmw's tho. they can be ALOT of money to fix things. also checkout bavarian autosport for cheaper(but better) parts and upgrades. they handle great, good mpg, reliable too. i just feel a bit cramped geting in there after getting out of my firebird we're planning on replacing her 1.8 with a new mini cooper S engine soon for more power
