  • What Car Would You Buy?

I remembered this thread from awhile back on mymonte.com and figured I'd post it to see reactions.

Ok, so this is another of my fantasy what-if threads. Assume you just hit the lottery- got yourself a real nice house (or two) with a big garage, and you set aside enough money to comfortably live like that for the rest of your life- there are a few local neighbors who are car nuts that seem to sweep this neighborhood car show every year- and you want to buy one car from each category to beat them (because your is cooler/faster/whatever) What would you get?

The assumption is you're loaded, so price isn't a factor, and we'll assume with the money that you'll be able to get your hands on just about anything (assuming it isn't a 1 off or prototype piece).

In these categories: year, car, color, special options/add ons

Small/Compact sports car: 1992 Nissan 240SX hatchback- SR20DET motor swap with custom body kit

SUV/Truck (needs a trailer hitch): 08 Chevy Silverado 1500 4X4 LTZ Crew Cab, Granite Blue Metallic w/ tan interior

High end exotic/supercar: 2007 Tesla Roadster, all electric supercar

    Classic car/Classic Muscle (pre '80): 1966 Chevrolet Corvair, LG5 3.1L 60* V6 Turbo engine swap.

    Luxury car: 2008 Cadillac XLR-V

Track only car (does not need to be street legal): 1988 Pontiac Fiero- twin turbo LQ1 engine swap.

Daily driver (sub $100k price tag- something you could drive every day): 2002 Cadillac Eldorado ETC

Oddball (anything goes): 1976 Lancia Scorpion, custom paintjob and flip up headlamp bonnets, LQ1 motor swap.

So what would you pick for these categories?

    I wouldn't mind 84/85 Firebird with a SC QUAD 4 or TT LS7 :hehe:

Lambo Diablo, love the way they look. I'd also have a Delorean DMC-12 in there. A DD would be a C5 or C6 silver, with a headered cammed LS3. Probably have a 5 or 6 spd Beretta Z26 with a built or turbo'ed 3900. Not sure on the big vehicles/trucks... Maybe a cyclone or typhoon for a hauling truck.

      1994 3100 BERETTA. 200,000+ miles
      16.0 1/4 mile when stock. Now ???
      Original L82 Longblock
      with LA1, LX9, LX5 parts
Manifold-back 2.5" SS Mandrel Exhaust. Hardware is SS too.

For a hauling truck I'd go with a 2007 chevrolet 3500HD with a heavily modified trans/engine, air ride, lift/dump bed, blacked out terminator look. Gotta have both types of hauling. lol

Sport Compact I would do one of the last year RX7's sold in the states, or import a Skyline (or wait for the new one heading our way).
Truck, well I like my Ranger, so I would get a newer one 4x4 extended cab and jack it up with bigger tires. That wouldn't be my main truck, since I would need a car hauler too. I would probably pick a newer F350 turbo diesel.
Super car... that is a tough one. I like the newer Lotus Elise.
Classic car, I would have to go with around a 67 Mustang and restore it (myself) and replicate the look of Eleanor (if you don't know who Eleanor is, delete your account now :P)
Luxury car, Probably a BMW 5 or 7 series.
Daily driver, probably a worked over newer BMW M3.
Track only car, probably an AC Shelby Cobra replica car.
And for my oddball, Chevette with a wild swap, like a 3.5VVT turbo or LQ1 turbo swap.

I would still keep my 92 of course :P

          91 Black Lumina Z34-5 speed
92 Black Lumina Z34 5 speed (getting there, slowly... follow the progress here)
94 Red Ford Ranger 2WD-5 speed

I saw a new Nissan GTR in Honolulu, HI last week... I'd take one... that and an Audi R8.
