Whats he runnin in that VW? The old 8valve or a VR6?

you could get them with a 8 valve or a 16 valve, but he went and had a new model 16 valve rebuilt for this car, i think its a 99 or so engine.

My sis has an '85 8v rocco I need to fix up... I suspect the timing belt is mistimed... plus there's any number of electrical bugs and broken interior pieces. Has ~210k miles, but handles like a dream, or did last time I drove it... just no darn power!

they had a rubber timing belt i believe, so its possible.

Well, she had a mechanic replace the belt, it made a squealy noise, she took it back and they fixed it... the noise was gone, but it no longer had any power... feels like it's making maybe 50hp.

break out the timing light and see if they put it back to the correct timing :shrugs:
