I have this old grocery getter 4 door inline six 77 chevy nova available to me (was mom's old car). For some reason I always liked the car (it was my first car), and against my Dad's wishes, we held onto it.
For the last 10-15 years I've had a dream of finding a lump-port head (modified from original to open up the intake-get rid of intake bolt bosses) to stick on the top of it, then bolting on actual clifford performance headers and intake manifold, then putting a fuel injection unit on it. I guess it could get up to 250-270 HP, depending.
Well, this stuff ain't cheap. In addition to the other stuff I have to fix on the car just to make it safe, the stuff I mentioned above will cost around 3-4 grand to implement if I don't try and find cheap substitute parts, used, etc.
Most folks say just go out and get a 350 ci V-8 and drop it in. I never really wanted to do that, I just wanted to have an original but upgraded inline six with fuel injection.
The reason I'm bringing this up is (and I couldn't believe it) but a custom lump port head is now up for auction on ebay. The price will probably go pretty high (its already at a 100 bucks and climbing). I'm thinking these things are fairly rare and hard to find. I stumbled across this one while bored on the internet.
I wonder if I should sell the car before I do something stupid, or try and pursue my "dream." Advice appreciated.
