  • My new truck

Well, it's not new, but it's new to me. It's a 1992 GMC K1500. I know I'll take some heat that it's a 4.3L, but the engine only has 80K miles and I picked it up for $1600.

I have yet to figure out WITF anyone would want a v 6 in a full size truck, they don't get any better mileage and they have no power. But long as your happy thats all that matters.

I would rather have a V8, but this was available, in my price range, and the V6 does what I need it to. I'll more than likely end up swapping a 350 in sometime down the road, but for now, I'll start on some of the body work that needs to be done.

$1600 is a fair deal for this truck in my area. I looked at craigslist and the local papers for half a year only to find trucks with more miles and in worse shape for more money than this. Around here, if you want a working engine and working 4x4, $1500 is about the minimum you can expect to pay. Maybe the area you live in is different, and that is great news for you, but that's just how it is around here.

I know everything in Florida seems to be freakin expensive. 3-4K seems to be the magic starting number for a used POS around here. They seem to want 1K for a car w/ no working engine.

Of course, after I buy whatever I get for regular going price, there is the friend that got lucky and got that "great" deal for just 500 bucks, and doesn't mind bragging about it.

Ya same here. If it floats your boat, then I guess it's a go.

While it's certainly not going to win any awards for speed, the 4.3L does what I need it to do. I'm not carrying any really heavy loads or pulling many trailers. I mainly needed a truck so that I could haul my firewood from where I cut it back to my house. I have a friend who uses a C1500 with 4.3L for a hunting truck and he's gone though way more things than I'll probably dare to drive this thing through. A 350 will swap in with little effort other than a new computer and different engine mounts. That is the route I will be going in a few years. For now, I'll concentrate on getting the body back in decent shape (which shouldn't take much work).
