A funny as it is I have seen head notches like that. Although a little more precise. I vaguely remember the details but adding the notches added resistance to detonation and the engine was able to make more power due to higher compression. I am pretty sure it was on Daily Planet on the Discovery channel.

They are called Singh Grooves. I actually read that whole thread O.o

Global solutions to reduce pollution from automobiles. More torque and power out of less fuel!

This link goes into a little more detail about them:

Introduction to my Combustion Chamber Innovations and Theory, based on my US Patents : US6237579 & US10393063 achieved after extensive Cut & Try experiments to refine and perfect my designs on Road & Tracks. Some Basic Facts of Combustion: Without Oxygen there is no form of Combustion. Any form of Combustion results in Oxides, Finally, Nitrogen […]

The technique is more for heads that aren't pent shaped like 4v heads. In other words, it's more for things like old SBC and heart shaped combustion chambers. The theory behind them is that in the high quench areas, the gasses flow through the channel easier then being squished into the CC where the combustion takes place. It kinda made sense to me, but it has no place in a. A 4v head that is designed well and b. a turbo application where the corners would create hot spots perfect for detonation since this tool did't bother rounding them off. I really would like to see how those heads and pistons look now with that said...

Here is my favorite pic... It shows what is causing him to think all this is a good thing:
