  • Let me introduce myself.

    Hello,

My Name is Mark and I just wanted to introduce myself and share with you my automotive passion and ask a few questions.

As a member of a site called HybridZ, a site dedicated to "anything but stock" Datsun/Nissan 240-350Z's, I have long considered what type of engine/drivetrain I want to install in at least one of my Datsun 240Zs.

Most people I know either mod the original 2.4-2.8L six, install a Nissan V6 or American V8. Almost 10 years ago, I looked into the GM 60`V6, but there wasn't much in the way high performance parts, let alone conversions, (I am a hot rodder at heart). Since that time, I continued researching and having stumbled upon this site, and lurked for sometime, I have decided that a 3.6L LY7 with a WCT5 is what I want to use.

Since this application will be RWD, I am seeking constructive advise that will help me in my conversion. With a well thought-out plan, I can start accumulating the parts necessary to make this happen. I would appreciate any and all suggestions and comments.

    Sincerely

    Mark aka "Z-Dreamer"

    Whatzzzuppp?

    Forced here.

Check out some of the guys doing the exotic builds. There are a few of us here going for big numbers, from SuperDave's N/A to Joseph Upson's TT 3900, me in between perhaps.

I would love to see one of us in a light RWD car making some good numbers.

The 3.6dohc is still fairly new, the 3500 is a bit more eaily grasped from wreckers.

What kind of numbers are you looking for?

The 3.6 is going to be a lot harder to do but if I had endless resources, it is the easy choice. The T5 will need an adapter plate to bolt up to engine, as it doesn't share the common 60V6 bell housing. We have pics in the photo gallery if you want to check it out.

The 3.6L had a 6 speed manual behind it in the Cadilac CTS. If you can score that your all set.

If the motor proves too hard to find at a price you can afford then go with a 3500 and a T5. It will be much easier and cheaper.

I was unaware that the LY7 used a different bellhousing than the rest of V6 family. I am not apposed to using a 3500 or even a 3.9, I just love the idea of DOHC with it's superb air flow, forged crank and rods. Since I am looking to use a supercharger, I"m not sure if a CTS could handle the torque I want to make.
