I doubt it... most of the fuel saving stuff is already in place, so odds of them just going back is slim since that would mean selling cars and such... you may see a rise in people driving again and less public transport being used, unless that individual likes the service they are getting and enjoys not having to worry about weekly car maintenance due to daily driving.

We'll just have to see how it goes... I would love to see prices down in the 2's but I'm not so sure thats gonna happen any time soon.

I have my doubts that we will ever see gas prices below $3 a gallon.

I saw one of those "Smart" cars driving around yesterday that had a bumper sticker on it that said "Got 50mpg?" I will take my 22mpg in my truck over that little death trap any day with they way people drive anymore...

My thoughts exactly... Those people look like a hamster in a ball... and the steps to the basement are just around the corner.

The 12.8 second 0-60 mph time won’t set any pulses racing, but we didn’t have any trouble getting the smart up to speed when merging onto the highway.
HAHAHAHAHAHA, also the 50mpg is a false advertisement, they get 33mpg city and 40 highway, so they are not ALL that great.

Honestly tho they got good crash test ratings, BUT I would LOVE to see one of those plowed into a Moving SUV of these days... that rating would be 1000000 times different in comparison to hitting a flat surface or a car lower than that.

Oil dropped below $100 a barrel and gas jumped from $3.65 up to $4.00 a gallon in three days. Gouging, anyone?. Diesel has stayed at $4.09 though, which is nice. I would love to see it drop below gas again where it belongs.

Yea for real I remember when my dad bought a diesel in order to save money on gas a few years ago and now it just sits in the driveway.

there's going to be a disconnect of the price of gasoline and the price of oil because they're traded independently.

Gas demand is up, but oil demand overall is down especially with the glut of crude waiting to be used up. A lot of refineries were down during the last two storms and they're just now coming back online.

Prepare for oil to skyrocket after this banking crisis causes investors to seek commodities investment as a hedge against the otherwise huge losses in Wall St.

I thought I'd read that the crash tests on those weren't bad.

True, but the EPA changed the methodology for the ratings recently, did they not? So I think it may be feasable for a car "officially" rated 40mpg highway to get 50 on a trip.

They would actually be an almost practical car here where I'm at given the fact that I'm rarely on the big roads.

Still, I like the extra room and extra power (HAHAHA) of my SL1. It's rated 29/40, but I find here in urban hell it gets about 20-22 going stoplight to stoplight with the A/C running. It'll top 40 on the highway tho. Got almost 42 one trip.

The crash tests weren't bad... But did you see what they crashed it into? They don't test its impact against a high SUV... or if they did I didn't see those results. The car would get demolished if anything higher than the bumper hits it.

Takes a good hit at 70mph, but its so rigid you would be done with how much force your body has to absorb...

Yeah, I watched those after I posted my post. I still wouldn't drive one. They look ridiculous. Now had I had $750 sitting around that I didn't know what to do with, there was a dealer around here that had a Ford Aspire on the lot last week. Those things don't look near as stupid as a Smart Car.

FUCK! I went looking for gas today, I'm damn near empty. Both gas stations near me have nothing to sell... time to start dialing and find one that has some rather than drive around looking.

Sunday I did some dialin', finally found some gas. $4.29. Still in short supply. I took the train to work yesterday instead of driving - I remember why I quit riding the train in the evenings. I had to wait nearly 30 minutes at the platform, then another 15 minutes on the train sitting still due to trackwork delays. All to go maybe 3 miles...
