  • Newbie to board...

but not to cars and V8s. I've had 13 V8 Camaro's, but this is my first car with a V6.
I just bought a 92 Camaro RS w/ 3.1 a few weeks ago. The motor came in boxes, but overall the car is in pretty good shape for $400. I know I'll be here looking for some hints and tips in the coming weeks as I put the motor back together. Might as well juice it up before it goes back in...
    Thanks,
    Barry

I'd say cam that bitch, port/polish the manifold and heads add higher compression pistons, aftermarket air intake w/K&N filter, good exhaust and a custom burned chip, that 3.1 will surprise you. BTW is it an auto or a stick?
If it\'s fun, it\'s probably illegal and if it\'s illegal I\'m probably doing it.

If you are driving a Chevy, everything else, is just a blur. 3.4 Carbon Footprint.

          It's a 5-spd.
What cam do you recommend that doesn't require going too much beyond the stock valvetrain but provides a few more ponies? Also, have got any recommended sites for buying performance parts?

          Thanks,

Try northernautoparts.com I haven't personally used them, but I have helped quite a few of my friends assemble engines with Northern products ( rebuild kits, tools, etc.) Everyone I know has been very happy. High quality, complete kits, fast shipping and best of all LOW PRICES. Their site takes a while to download, because their whole catalog is online.

Spend some 4000 for all this and still get ass owned by an LT1

No shit man. V8's are not an easy kill. Once you have a LT or LS platform you can get huge power even before boost. If boost ever gets on one of thoes engines they go like stink.

Sorry guys I thought this was a v-6 forum, Oh wait IT FUCKING IS!! Small blocks chevys are for fags and pussies with no imagination. Any inbred asswipe can build a " 400 horse 350 with Corvette heads and a 3/4 race cam" now try building an AMC 360 with 500 horse, THAT takes ingenuity. I have yet to meet a smallblock chev that I haven't blownup. I beat all my vehicles the same and the SBCs ALWAYS die. 305, 350, 400 it doesn't matter, they all suck. At last count I had thirteen of the worthless fucking things. ALL blown up in less than 10,000 miles. 89 Z-24 with a 2.8 bought at 160,000 miles, ran it out of oil at 189,000 still runs, bad knock though. dare to be different, don't do smallblock chevs.

                          V6? What's that :P

Ehh, small-blocks aren't all that bad, I mean, it's not like it's a 90° V6 or anything.... we've never had one fail at our house (unlike a 22R-E toyota and a 3.8 buick)

Judging from my list of cars below, I guess I'll have to take my ball and go home then ....
