O.O Mine spit out 565 pages of crap about templates, controls, tabs and page layouts... This being on Word in Office 2007... Granted it was the same few pages over and over, but still, I'm glad my PC isn't exactly slow or it would have been sitting here for the next hour doing that had it been my laptop. CON is a active sirname command of the windows configuration command prompt since folder names are still stored long key in XP and before it a folder named con would cause a conflict in the 'System' folder(s).

CON , PRN, AUX, CLOCK$, NUL, COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4, COM5, COM6, COM7, COM8, COM9, LPT1, LPT2

CON is a PRN command Of commonly Print Screen or system request, mostly becasue DOS still ties those words up as reserved. CON is used for several other like COPY CON to create a test.txt. CON is really old school DOS and using the EDIT command is faster is this case. CON is mostly a part of the printer spool communications, even still some embedded instant commands still use this to send a fast copy to the LPT circuit, or the ROOT drive.
