  • turbo v8 input needed

    Hey i need your guys input, its a chevy 5.7 liter, had 8.5 compression but now has flat top pistons and they're bored .060 over, im guessing the compresion is around 9.0, I plan on putting a T4 on it and run a blow thru carb and msd boost timing master with a max of 3 degrees per # of boost. my problem is getting fuel with a mechanical pump. I only want to run about 10 psi, any input on doing this and tuning it is appreciated.

    EDIT, does anyone think the compression is too high?

    9:1 compresstion will be fine. just make sure you have enough fuel. I know NOTHING about cabs... so i cant give any help in that area.

      I'm sure they make electric fuel pumps that run pressure that low. I know my Honda Preludes all had electric fuel pumps. 2 of them had dual carbs from the factory.

        Fuel pumps have nothing do do with the pressure in the system. You can very easily make a stock electric pump supply a carb simply by plumbing in the correct regulator.

        The only way the pump relates to the pressure in the system is the limit at which the pump will stall or slip due to the fact it cannot create any more flow at a given system pressure. The regulator completly controls the pressure in the system.

        Is this engine already carb'd or is it EFI? I am guessing carb'd since you mentioned you have a mechanical pump.

          thanks for helpin out guys, i havnt been on the forum in a few days now... Yes i need to run a regulator off my mechanical pump, run a return line to the tank and i should be good with fuel pressure. Im going to be running a holley blow thru carb that is good up to 10 psi. I know there are a few different ones i can get but the guy down the street can get me really good deals on blow thrus. Tuning is going to be the key... like always.

            I'd be very impressed if you get this done . Tunin the old carb engines (with turbos) isn't quite as easy as tuning these. (and getting it to run well at both idle/WOT). Good luck with the build

              i'd upgrade the mechanical pump.. or swap out to an electric Holley Blue and regulator. It's not so much about pressure.. it's about fuel volume. a nice 110 GPH pump should be enough.

              remember, if you put one of the badass mechanical pumps in you gotta change the pump pushrod or you'll wipe the lobe on the cam. I was never told this and had it happen. No fun.
