I'm looking at getting a an '84 cutlass ciera 'vert that has a bad 3.0. My question is this: is a 3.0 a 60* or a 90* engine and what engines can be interchanged? TIA.

Tuning a car is full of compromises. You must decide if you are willing to give up either reliability, performance, or a whole load of cash. Also remember that repairs will seem to come up much more often as you strive for even more performanceTags: None

Definitely 90*. I'm not exactly certain what fits but I would bet a 3.3L from a newer model could bolt in pretty easy. As a matter of fact, I have a car with a bad trans and miserable body at my brother's house with a 3.3L in it. I'm pretty sure it had under 100k miles before it was left to sit about 2 years ago. If you are near enough to North Florida to pick it up, I could let it go for the price of helping me extract it from a '90 Skylark.
There are also places online you can pick up reasonably cheap short and long blocks for 3.0/3.3 engines. And there's always the L67 swap!
