  • Belt/Pulley Squeel

    I have a '95 Grand Prix GTP w. 3.4L motor.

I have a belt squeel or pulley squeeling. I actually can make the squeel go away by adding baby powder to the belt.

Anyone have a reason why the squeel would go away when I add the powder? I have looked at the water pump and there appears to be no leakage there...

can you tell where its coming from? i thought my ac compressor was squealing but it was actualy just the belt. might want to try a new belt.

if the belt is streched maybe the baby powder is causing it to slip just enough so that you dont hear the squeeling? i would definatly try a new belt first

Why would you even think to try that? Are there any other parts of your car that you sprinkle baby powder on?

            belts

i work at a parts store and we cary dayco brand belts, currently the pollycog line, and our dayco rep came in the other day, they are releasing a new line, "w" series or something, the grooves on the belts are alot narower but htey have little v's cut into hte ribs so it actualy is supost to "grip"the pullys with more pressure now, to reduce noise, they looked pretty neat, ill see if i can snap a picture tomorrow while im at work.
(the good part, is they cost the same as the polycog's)

That isn't new is it? Seems the Goodyear belts I've gotten all have notched ribs.

The 3.4 serpentine belt will squeal if you get anything on it. Coolant will permanently contaminate the belt so youd be best to get a new belt.

its not notched ribs like that, its like in the lenght of the rib, not across the width of the belt
