Deepending on the cost of the fare, I would probably consider doubling my commute time if it saved me enough in gas costs. I mean, you already say it takes 1-1.25 hrs when driving, and "nearly" 2 hrs on a train. But you can actually do something on a train (read a book, play on a laptop, etc) versus just driving or sitting in traffic. I think it would almost be relaxing for me...-Brad-

A while back, probably 2 years ago, the fare for 2 different rail systems + the bus was about equal to what I was spending on gas. That's obviously not the case any more. It probably does add up to some savings now with gas at $4. I guess I'm trying to hold on to that 45 minutes x 2 each day. But before long I'll be considering it I'm sure.

When I lived in Portland, I picked my apartments based on proximity to the light rail. It wasn't gas that would have killed me (at the time), but parking. Time spent on a train can be productive and/or relaxing. I was able to read a lot more and I felt really good with all the walking I was doing too. The train didn't land me right on campus, but I'd rather walk than catch a bus.'98 Volvo V90 - Ford 5.0 swap in progress

With how living expenses are going up, and how everyone is losing their houses due to mortage problems... any bets a depression may not be too far away? I hope i'm way wrong, but from my point of view things aren't looking that great. Working at the dealership isn't helping my view much though. We aren't selling any hummers anymore, so the sales guys are making no money, the hummer customers aren't bringing their trucks in to get serviced anymore. So no work for me and the other tech. The service writer is making no money because no trucks are coming in to worked on... So all of us may be out of a job soon, because there will be no need for us. This time last year we were swamped, now we're lucking to get LOFs to do... woo a whole .4 an hour. You may or may not know 10 times what i do.

I wierd guy came upto me in lewis parking lot and offered 4k cash for my sunny....I said no at 35 town 45 highway average, give me 10k. The guy was lude but had cash in his phat wallet.
So far I dropped 300 dollars on the engine, and am getting a new front suspension setup including new control arms, bushings, cvd's, shocks, and a soon a new econ front bumper kit assembly made for economy not glitz or things like that, with a graphite hood and trunk deck and possibly front fenders. Looking for several ways to drop weight. Parts for this car are easy to find and affordable....Well most are some are outrageous.
Also studing into ways to make a econ gain to 55mpg highway. I may get a cold air intake just for econ. I was thinking about cutting the top off flush with retaining members of the upper door frames and placing a fitted aluminum sheet over top and bondo seams and repaint. Removing stock tank and use a ploy tank in the trunk that holds 4 gallons.Last edited by Juglenaut; 05-24-2008, 01:01 AM.I am back

i think this time im going to have the flames painted on this car.im getting tired of my cars catching fire.maybe i need to start flipping them or lifting.

Gotta love Chicago. Highest gas prices in the country right now. I was stuck downtown in my work van this week when my gas light popped on. I payed 4.49 a gallon. 23 gallons too. Im sure glad the company pays for gas! My car gets filled with premium, but I only go through a tank of gas every two to three weeks2006 AWD TBSS 12.538 @ 106.92 1.66 60' Bolt-ons only

I'd hate to see our company fuel bill. Our big International and Ford line trucks are all diesel (replacing the small Ford F450 bucket truck with a Dodge soon).
My little Dodge Dakota with a V6 gets about 13MPG because it has a huge canopy to push around. Kills performance too.'98 Volvo V90 - Ford 5.0 swap in progress
