  • 94 - 95 vs. 96 DIC

I have heard from so many people that the 94 - 95 DIC will not work in the 96. Does anyone have a real explanation as of why it will not? I don't want to hear because it is OBDII, because if that is the case then my DIC in my car will not work once I swap over to OBDII and I am pretty sure that it will work just fine.

I have checked the 95 GM Service Manual and I have checked the 96 GM Service Manual. The DIC plug it self has the "EXACT" same wiring.

The input and output may be interpreted differently. Kind of like trying to put DIMMs inplace of RIMMs... Even if you get it to seat right, the bit is different.

But the 95 uses Serial Data (Class 1) and the 96 uses Serial Data (Class 1 and Class 2). If the data that goes to the DIC goes through Class 1 then it will work perfectly fine. In which I believe it does still go through Class 1. I guess I will have to prove everyone wrong when I go OBDII and it still works.

Yea I would just plug it all in and see what happens. If it does feed data out, make sure the data is correct with what it should be. You'll know if it's wrong though... It's never 5*F in the summer.

there was no change in the temp sensor. I think it is just some of the engine data that might be off. Like fuel economy, and stuff.

The outside air temp sensor is the same, and all of the wiring is the same except for that 1 data wire. There is only 2 wires from the DIC that goes to the PCM, and one is for the VSS, but since it is still 4,000 pulses like the older cars, then it should not be effected. The only thing I can think of is the RANGE might not work right. Then again, it will probably work fine since so many people have got it in their heads that it will not work, and so they don't even try it.
