  • Olds Aurora 3.5

My GF has a 2001 Olds Aurora with a 3.5 V6. She can't find the oil filter. Where can I tell her it's located ? Is it under the plastic cover like on my 2002 Olds Alero ?

The newer cars are getting more and more fucked up. It makes me laugh.

That engine has a special oil filter cartrage. It is part of the lower engine assembly. You need a tool to remove it.

can I even see it if I'm under the car?
You got a diagram or can you tell me more about the cartrage / tool ?

Yea it is part of the intergral oil pan. It has a star shaped (for lack of a better word) top on it and takes a fancy oil filter wrench to remove it. A dealer will ave the tool. I dont think you can buy it forma any old auto parts store.

Is this something like the quad 4's where the oil filter is actually a cartridge held in the pan by the stupid metal cap that rusts out and strips when you go to change the oil? Or cross threads when trying to put it back on? I hate those fuckers!!
If it\'s fun, it\'s probably illegal and if it\'s illegal I\'m probably doing it.

I have a buddy with a 3.5 Intrigue (same motor I'm assuming), and he says he can't find the tool anywhere. If you find this tool please pm me, so I can tell him it exists somewhere other than a dealer. Thanks.

the filter is an open element/cartrige style that fits into a large Black plastic cup that threads into the bottom of the oil pan

it uses the OLD school AC Delco filter wrench to remove it. the same filter wrench that fits on the end of any AC delco pf47 pf52, pf58, pf59, pf44 ect ect ect.

looks like a cup with a handle on it.

the only markings on my delco filter wrench is: OF17W
                      hope this helps.

I found a little cup-style filter wrench by a quick search on Froogle, is this what you're looking for? It says it works on 3" filters with a 15-flute end... I don't know what the number of flutes on the Olds cartridge is, but from the Quad4 pic, it looks pretty close to 15 'flutes.'
