The best story i heard one time was from a guy who works at a turbo rebuild place.

i guess a guy didnt think his turbo was running right. thought it wasnt working at all.
so he puts his hand over the inlet and then... (yeah this is the darwin award part of it) Hits the throttle to rev it up quick.....

needless to say the turbo was working, as he lost a few pieces of his fingers...

the worst part was the guy who was telling this story (the one who worked at the turbo repair shop) said he now knows what very thin cross sections of finger look like....

That's not luck, thats fucking stupidity. Like this guy I work with, was loading a centrifuge rotating assembly onto a truck. He did't use slings, instead he just picked it up on the forks of the loader. Tilts them down onto the deck, the fucking thing rolls right off the other side of the deck. It hits the fucking pavement, made a nice DUUNNNG sound and a 4 inch divot in the street. The thing weighs 15000lbs and is worth a half a million dollars. But after new bearings, seals and some new tiles the repair bill was only $20000.00. Stupid fuck.
