im looking into building a shop with an apartment on top. my "plan" so far is 30W x 40L x 30H.

my question is, how unrealistic is this? those are kinda just guestimates on how big... it just needs to be big enough for a lift and a few cars with plenty of working area

how much do u think concrete costs? its 1200sq ft. (for my dimensions)

i know i should just go talk to a contractor or something but i dont want to yet, im just tryin to get opinions and stuff of how my idea is

im gonna bust out the tape measure to get more accurate dimensions on the size i want, im bad on estimating

My suggestion would be to check out www.ls1tech.com There are a TON of guys there with garage/apartments like you are talking about. You could check out that for some ideas, and many of them have listed what everything has costed them.
