  • Why all the L67's are catching fire...

If its the same as the following car, its a leaky trans line.

    From a guy at FordvsChevy
The story goes that he was driving his car a few days ago, smelled/saw some smoke from the engine compartment stoped and pulled over. He had the car towed to pepboys to have it looked at, I guess it was a bad tranny line. So pepboys calls him up and says car is fixed and we just need to take it for a test ride. Later on he gets a call from pepboys and they said something has happend to his car. I guess during the test ride the car started on fire. He had just spent $4,500 on an Intense Tranny and $1,500 on a I/C. If you guss have any advise for him spit it out. The car was a true GTP/GTX from SLP.

... pep boys, there's a suprise, they have the ability to set anything on fire, or leave anything without oil. Honestly, make pep boys pay for the car, or hire a lawyer to make it happen much faster then that.

here's a little story about Pep Boys...

A Mr.Lube out here had to pay for a new LS6 motor in a Corvette. My dads work did the swap.
They never filled it up with oil and the guy drove off and the light came on. He came right back but the damage was already done.

That's painful, an LS6 replacement. When I worked at the Chevy dealer, this guy had his 2001 white Z06 towed in because the motor had supposedly siezed. Well, it had 18,000 miles and he was on his THIRD set of tires, which were completely bald. So we all know what he was doing to the car. Anyways, we replace the motor under warranty and parts and labor together came out to somewhere around $13,000-$15,000

Not pretty. I really feel for the Mr. Lube place. That really hurts in the pocket book. (though they should have paid more attention )

Here's an idea.. if you own a nice Corvette, don't bring it to "Mr. Lube".

What in the world was the dude with the GTX thinking bringing his car into Pep Boys? I feel bad for him, but he should have known better. I'd rather drive my car off a bridge that bring it to a place like that.

Anybody who doesn't change there own oil are dumbfucks. It is so simple to do, yet sooooooooo important.......think about it. One small oops by a hung-over, under-paid, high school kid, and your baby that you worked so hard on.......that's right! JUNK!

there was a local jiffy lube (a while back) which did an oil change on a Porsche 911, and they drained the oil, and refilled the crankcase with the proper 12? quarts of oil.... Minor detail is that they never drained the oil cooler (whale-tail). They ended up paying for an engine replacement in that one too...

A non-synthetic oil change in a 911 with a a whale-tail costs around $80 for a place which specializes in it! (had a friend who had one)

Got any pictures of that oil cooler setup? The name is interesting enough, I can't see why it costs so much for that setup but I guess either its a LOT of oil or its a bitch to get to.

i'd love to take my car to them just once to see if they can even find my filter. and for the record my car takes $45 of royal purple @ $5/qt to be full... i dont think they would include me in the $10.99 oil change.

i do make my mom take her car in to the 10.99 place, but they are a real "tuner" shop with mechanics who does oil changes for customers(bought my wheels there) at that price - not one of those jiffy-screwup-lubes - because instead of paying $8.50 for oil and a filter and having to dispose of old oil, pay $2.50 more and they get rid of it for me.

There's a oil cooler all in that spoiler...

I changed the sparkplugs on one of those once, that's a pain (Horizontally opposed 6-cyl back there!)

i think one half is the oilcooler mounted to the rear deck, and the other side is an intake for the intercooler i believe in that year.
