DUDE, sweet. My GTP has already been on fire once.
These vehicles may experience an under hood fire. The fires may be caused by drops of engine oil being deposited on the exhaust manifold through hard braking.
I got the fire out, and did repairs to the car enough to get it running. So when I get that recall notice in the mail someone in the world is going to be pissed off. I'm willing to bet that in addition to all the recall parts, they're going to be changing the engine wire harness too. 100% gaurantee that my fuel injector harness is trashed and a good portion of the main harness is messed up. The only reason the car runs is because I had a 660 harness laying around, and I used some injector plugs and wires so that the 660 could give life to the L67 again. Muahahahaha. At either rate, my guess is that my 97 GTP is going to be down at the dealership for a while.
By the way, they say they know of 267 Vehicle fires. They don't know about mine since it wasn't claimed on/fixed by insurance. So make it 268.
Funny part, it talks about a burning smell.... even though I replaced that front valve cover gasket and all, I still get a burning smell. Could be from the wiring that's burned up.

thatss about all they kept the same. Damn near every year of that silly engine has been changed for one thing or another. Its pita as far as parts is concerned.
The series 2 sounds like a zombie....Lorenzo

Yeah, I had to use an extiquisher on my 92 but it was because the rear caliper siezed and the pad caught on fire. My wifes 01 gtp has an extingisher in the trunk, our z71 has one in the tool box and my 92 has on in the trunk. Alot of cars could be saved if people carried an extinguisher in the trunk of their car. My friend would have lost his show winning mustang if he didn't have an extingiusher with him, his sub caught on fire in his trunk.

At least on the bright side. GM told me that the dealership will do the recall AND replace the parts that were previously damaged in the fire. Which is probably going to come down to the engine harness, fuel injector harness, the little plastic track that the L67 has for the spark plug wires. And maybe the exhaust manifold heat shield..... and maybe anything else. I guess I should go hunting deep down inside the GTP's engine bay to make absolutely sure I get down everything that's messed up.97 Cavalier RS
