"If a fire occurs, it may cascade through the engine compartment causing vehicle damage and in some cases, the fire may spread to structures where the vehicle was parked."

"This letter will also provide three important precautions the customer should take: 1) Do not park the vehicle in a garage, car port or other structure. "

"3) Customers should use premium fuel (91 octane or higher) as recommended in their vehicle owner's manual. " <---cause 91 burns slower...hahahahaha!

Q5: Why didn’t GM know about this?
A5: The rate of occurrence was very low, about one in 1,000 vehicles.

Q7: How many fires have there been?
A7: We are aware of 267 fires to date.

      Q8: What about property damage?
A8: We are aware of 17 fires involving structure damage."

      WOW! 267 fires. 1 in 1000 win!

"Q13: The customer advisory letter mentions premium fuel. Why is this important?
A13: Because the vehicle was designed to run on 91-octane fuel, using lower-octane fuel increases under hood temperatures during operation." <---damnit!

i kinda laughed when i came upon the octane sentance

theres gotta be more behind that than just a leaky valve cover. maybe they will stop using shitty plastic valve covers that warp with heat.

although i forget what year it is gotta be a 99 or 00 but its a gtp in the yard and it wasnt on fire but someone ganked the blower

..I am stunned that they aren't going after the N/A engines as those really flame up big time.

Another band aid solution for the Buick 3.8. It's like the mummy of engines!!!

GOD JUST STOP MAKING THAT POS ENGINE ALREADY BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED!!!

I'm surprised they all use plastic valve covers. GM did away with that on the 3100's after like just one year. It's bad enough they have plastic intake manifolds that like to crack on the N/A 3800s. Sure plastic saves weight but I'd rather not have to replace shit. Save weight else where...

Not quite, GM new about the fire hazard in the Fiero before it went into production so that's closer to negligence rather than incidental. It stinks to think about it because I can just imagine how awesome the Fiero would probably be now more than 20 yrs later. Then again maybe not, the Miata still looks like crap to me.

Chin up, you can be the first to swap the L67 into the front of an 84 fiero while retaining your stock iron duke in the rear. Truly a vehicle to fear!
