  • No more site design work at work...

And no, its not because I got in trouble (as Ben thought). Its because, if I designed it to look good on my current setup, most people would hate me (and I would hate myself once I got home). Anyway, I got an upgrade to my monitor setup yesterday here at work. I was previously running 3 NEC 19" flat panels (yes, I said 3 ). Now, I am running 2 NEC 19" and 1 NEC 24" widescreen (1900x1200). Let me tell you this thing is awesome! Well, the whole setup is just sweet as hell in general. Sometimes I love being the guinea pig here at work to try out "new" technologies that we may in the future expand to more staff.

For those that don't know, and wonder what the hell I do that I need 3 monitors for... I am an electrical designer for an Architectural/Engineering firm, so I work in AutoCAD usually 75% of the time. Having multiple screens allows me (most staff currently have at least 2 19" monitors) to be drawing in 1 screen and have spreadsheets open in another, and be able to coordinate between the 2.

But yeah, I think alot of people would be pissed if I started making the site ideal at 1900x1200.

Yeah, I really hate to go home sometimes to my 17" CRT. One of these days I'll upgrade. Usually things like the house and kids take precidence over my toys.

I hear ya about too many computers. I have a Linux box in the basement that has a 15" CRT hookup up to it, I have my main computer with the 17" CRT, then I have another Linux box that's setup as a HTPC, plugged into the 60" bigscreen (non-HD ), and finally the OLD 100mhz laptop with its 13" LCD. I used to also have another PC with a 17" monitor, but I let one of my wife's friends borrow it, and I have no clue what happened to it. Not like I really needed it...

i got all this crammed in my room. i got two full size towers about 28 inches tall and two reg size towers. under the desk theres 2 computers and by the bed are the other 2, then up on a shelf is my old hp pavillion 360n as a backup kind of thing.

ive got boxes full of parts and cables. still got a fully working dfi lanparty agp based mobo sitting in a box, with an amd xp3000 proc i beleive still installed with the heatsink.
a few years ago i gave my freind one of the other computers i had that i wasnt using anymore.
ive been pondering bringing one of the older pc's down to the garage for when im in there with the car.

Damn, yall braggin 'bout how good ya'll got it, I'm stuck here on a frankenstien dell p3, 17" crt, windows 2k, and DIAL-UP!!! Down south my dad has a nice box, frankenstien number cruncher with windows XP displaying on 1 nice 22" v7 flat screen I think its HD but not sure. Oh, and its got CABLE.
But since you guys got all the neat toys, can I make a couple small requests? First, I'm looking for a couple of those old full size towers, ya know, the ones that are like 3-4 feet tall. Dont need any of the internals (well, maybe a power supply but nothing else). And then I'm looking for a back-up copy of an a-cad program. My main copy got a virus and when I try to load the backup copy it wont take saying the backup is corrupted.
Tuning a car is full of compromises. You must decide if you are willing to give up either reliability, performance, or a whole load of cash. Also remember that repairs will seem to come up much more often as you strive for even more performance

wow. I suddenly feel inferior with my single monitor laptop.

I will admit that watching DVD's on it is a blast. LCD blows the TV tube out into the stratosphere.

Maybe I should get one of those projection units, and use a sheet on the wall to have a 12 foot monitor. Show all y'all whos da boss.
