  • couple random probs...

So here are the 2 probs im having.... The car is a 1995 Monte Carlo Z34

    1. my heater control works on Speeds 1, 2, and 3. When i go the the 4th position the vents quit blowing... (If that makes a dam bit of sence) doesn't matter where i have the air blowing. Im guessing its the switch itself, how can i test the switch?

    2. both power door locks quit functioning. i push the button on both sides and use the remote and nothing. they both lock manualy. When i push the "Lock/unlock" button i do hear a very faint "Click" under the dash like a relay or something clicking, not very loud. Im guessing there is a relay somewhere. If so where is it located? i have also check the fuse box inside the car and don't appear to have any blown fuses....

Ohh... I also have a "Anti-lock" light on... May be related maybe not... Im guessing its a wheel speed sensor but thought i would include that.

    Thanks in advance,
    S

The ABS cannot be diagnosed without a scan tool as any failure will disable the system. Other than trial and error to diag, there are no symptoms to draw off of.

Max speed on the hvac is battery. There is a relay for high speed.

The door lock relay SHOULD be at the passenger side by the A pillar, access via the lower dash cover.

I understand the ABS light cannot be diag'ed w/o a scan tool. I am going to do a rear disc converson this week and if it doesn't go away i will address it then.... Guessing bad speed sensor but who knows....

I will try the relay for the door lock. Hopefully thats the prob. its a cheap fix if it is.

As for the HVAC statement, What do you mean by it's "Battery"? I understand there is a relay, would it be under the hood fuse box or in car? i swappd 2 on the inside fusebox and don't think it helpd.

      Thanks Again

Your HVAC high speed relay is fried, I bet...This happens to my van every so often. A relay is about $12 new. I am not sure where it's located on that car though.

Mmmka i bet my chiltons/haynes will tell me where right?

As for the Door lock relay, i found it WAY under the dash right where you said it would be and i can feel it click when i hit the button... Is it reasonable to assume that it is bad even tho the relay clicks?

It COULD be the high blower relay (which is located under the dash on the right side of the car). It says that has 5 wires going to it.

It could also be the BLOWER RESISTORS (which is more likely). Those go bad really easy, and commonly. It is located under the passenger side of the dash tucked WAY back under there. From the blower motor, follow the air duct towards the center console, and you will see an electrical connector going up in there. That is the resistor module.

            Those go out fairly easily.

Your power door lock relay might not be in the normal place. In my cars, they are actually on the DRIVERS SIDE in the kick panel. Just pull back the carpet, and pull off the plastic cover, and there it is.

The high speed has full battery power running to it no resistors in line. you should see battery voltage at the blower motor on full power.

The relay casing can be dismantled rather easily by prying open the cover. You'll see how when you look at it as it's just cliped together. you can back probe the relay as well making sure battery is going in terminal C and comming out to ground at terminal D. Then test by switch activation, terminal E and terminal B. You should see battery or slightly less, no more than a .8 volt....Otherwise I would say that it is possible the doorlock linkage is sticky. the cold weather aggravtes this as well.

Yeah your relay is activating, whether or not its getting power to the actuators is another story...

Have you checked the wires from the ABS pump? That was the issue with my ABS on my 95' Cutlass. For nearly two years they worked off and on and then the wire finally broke off all the way. Driver pass were both taped in the same area as though they had been spliced before. Pick below.
