Yeah... 88 is the year to be born in that way you get to identify with 88 GTs =P

I'd jump on the car too for that price, that's ridiculous, it's worth much more in decent condition.

Converting from a 4 cyl to V6 is rough, but not impossible, if you're doing an engine swap anyway the transmission swap will all be part of the process but it still wont be a walk in the park, expect to have to fab some mountage and possibly splice some harness.

you drop the k member and you can change everything there. You are going to need the 5 speed trans, mounts, axles, shift cables and shifter for the interior. Pluse you are going to need to mount the pedal, master cylinder, hydraulic line, slave cylinder. You will also need the computer stuff to run it. Basically just buy a 5 speed car it is way too much time work and $$ to convert it. The A3 should be ok for a bigger engine as long as you are reasonable with it. NO V8's but a 6 banger could be possible. go to pennocks fiero forum and do a search everything you will ever want to know is there.

Diablo, you asked for swap info, and I'm here to help. On the power steering rack, go to a bone yard and source an old Chevette. Dont laugh. The fiero front suspension/ steering is exactly the same. On the motor, a 660 should be fairly easy. The fiero *rear* subframe is a slightly mdified (front swivle mounts) Citation *front* subframe and there are a bunch of people with 'tations who ditch the 4cyl bitch and go for the gusto. The 5 speed swap is similiarly easy as the subframe is already drilled for both. The hard part will be swapping the pedal assembly and the clutch master cyl. Also STAY AS FAR AWAY FROM THE ISUZU TRANNIES AS YOU CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In school we had an i-sucks-zu i-mark and noone could figure out why the tranny was bad. After the high school brats pulled EVERYTHING apart, turns out the whole problem was a tiny thrust washer. Not bad enough? Well, i-sucks-zu denied any and all knowledge of this washer ever existing!!! Basicly, a whole car trashed because of what should have been a $5 washer.
Tuning a car is full of compromises. You must decide if you are willing to give up either reliability, performance, or a whole load of cash. Also remember that repairs will seem to come up much more often as you strive for even more performance

so as far as mounting the trans... what will i need for a 5spd conversion? not talking about the pedal assembly or anything, just wanna know about getting it in and to a point it will work.... guessing i could just unbolt the mounts for the 4 and bolt in mounts for a 6? or are they welded on?

as far as the PS, its easier to find fieros in yards than it is to find a 'vette around here, lol

Chevette not corvette!!!!!! Google it to see what a chevette is! Honestly dude if you bought the car just drive it for a while. It seems pretty straight for a car of that age.

Oh boy, your making me think. Damn, its been while since I did a tranny swap write up and of those were for FWD's (there are minor differences, explained later).
Basicly, you need a good tranny first, ideally a 282. Also, you need manual tranny mounts (I believe these are different between the auto & stick), CV axles, fiero specific shifter cable (2 cables vs. 1), fiero specific 5 speed shifter (the 4 speed stick shifter wont work), 5 speed clutch (not a 4 speed, throw out bearing is slighty different), fiero master & slave cyls (these are the same on all fiero's), SS brake line to connect the cyls. (not sure the size but should be easy to find and fab).
Easiest way to go about the swap is start by pulling the shifter & cables out and tossing aside. Next, go into the engine bay and disconnect anything to do with the auto trans. Later on you will want to do some wiring (for the back up lights and park/neutral clutch safety switch). Then jack then rear end up and pull the wheels, and undo the the cv axle nut, and seperate the lower ball joint (this is so you dont have to get a reallignment when everthing goes back together). After that, pull the strut out & away of the cv axle. Pull cv axles. Next, finish disconnecting and pulling the tranny. Put the clutch in and mount the new tranny. Important note: there are 2 sets of slots to align the tranny mounts on the subframe, the auto should be on the inside and the manual should go on the outside. The mounts are BOLT IN so that makes things real easy. After rebolting the subframe, put the new cv axles in and and recconect the struts/ spindles. While you have the car in the air, nows the ideal time to hook up the slave cylinder and lines to the front. When the cars back on the ground, install the new shifter and cables. Important note: when using a FWD tranny in a fiero, remember that where the shifter cables connect to the tranny the "shifter arms" (sorry, its almost midnight and I cant think of the technical name), the "shifter arms" MUST be flipped 180*. Install new pedal assembly & mater cyl. & bleed the system. Now you should be able to technically drive the car but I'd go ahead and do the wiring as I wouldnt want to do all that work & accidently start the car in gear or back up & have someone ram me 'cuz my lights werent lit (both do happen).
That pretty much it, now, can this write up be made into a sticky or put somewhere permanent? From this write-up it may seem like alot of work but it can easily be done in a weekend if you have everything ready to go.
                      Jeremiah
P.S. I know 'vette's are getting scarce as hens teeth, but you asked.

cool, sounds good... biggest thing im worried about is wiring and getting it all to mate up because to be honest i dont really wanna go custom here, maybe i'll just go with a 2.8 hybrid and turbo it... who knows!! again, biggest thing is tuning and wiring

cant since i just have yahoo...... wiring in itself isnt hard, the hard part is making sure all the wires go to the right spot and getting them there from the beginning which is usually a PITA
