LOL no I don't think the P100 would hack it. My first comp was a P100 with 1 GB hard drive and 8MB of ram LOL. I boosted it to 24MB ram a couple years later and it sure made Top Gun and Need for Speed run faster LOL. My dad said we would never need more than 1GB hard drive space. Well now I have about 50GB just for mp3's

well, on the note of MP3 players, the one that i use is Amarok. works fine.
i do have to say that Ubuntu has been the easiest install of linux on my HP laptop, wireless, even Compiz Fusion Desktop effects (looks ALOT better than vista nad more functional too, 6 desktop hexagon, rotatable, and much more) Gained a half hour battery life over running windows and my wireless is blazingly fast now. Keep it up id also suggest O'Reilly's book "Linux in a nutshell" great reference. ive been using it in my Networking degree program for over 3 years.

XMMS likes to flake when you have bad files in a directory. Like WMV's and crap like that. I'd recommend doing a case insensitive search for *.mp3 and just drag and drop in the playlist. That always works for me. Or go through your directories and clean them up. Remove any 100KB WMA/V files since those tend to be P2P viruses anyway.
Originally posted by betterthanyou View PostXmms was included with Fedora and also included the codecs for mp3, flac and ogg. So that is up and running now too. But when I choose to load a whole directory it is kind of flakey.
But ohwell I am still very happy with Linux thus far. It is not as idiot proof as Windows but sure runs a hell of alot faster and with less junk. No spam ware, malware, spyware or virus crap to worry about

Bringing this thread back from the dead... I installed Ubuntu 8.04 as a dual boot right after it came out, so back around the beginning of May. I am happy to say, I've only booted Windows ONCE since then, and it was only for about an hour or so. I am so pleased with Ubuntu. About the only thing I miss is the ability to use AutoCAD. It doesn't even work via Wine. I've read just about all the discussion groups that have talked about it, and pretty much all of them say that anything past AutoCAD 2005 won't work via Wine. Oh well, I can still log in to my work computer via Citrix from Ubuntu, so if I really want to do CAD, I can always do it that way.
How is your setup going Geoff??-Brad-

LOL that setup is in the garbage... Literally.
It worked awesome for a couple months. I loved everything about it. Even that 8 year old POS laptop running Linux was faster than the PC I am on right now running Win XP. But the AC Adapter port on the back had a loose solder connection and was flaking out bad on me. Eventually it would not charge the battery and it just went dead and I was not going to spend a dime on it so I tossed it. But no worries I plan to buy myself a good laptop and run Linux on it once I move into my new house
I liked Fedora and the mass support it had. But I would try any other release just to check it out.1993 EXT. CAB, 3.4L V6 TBI, 5spd manual. Sonoma
1990 4Door, 3.2L V6 TBI, 5spd manual. 4X4. Trooper
Because... I am, CANADIAN
