  • Canon scanner, images all blue???

I have a Canon D1250U2F scanner. My dad bought it for me back around 2001 for Christmas, but I did not have a computer that could run it... Now I do of course and I'm just now unpacking it and hooking it up... I downloaded the latest drivers and the images are all blueish / cyan colored.... grrrrr

I'm thinking it's a hardware problem. Thing is though am I shit out of luck on it because it's so old? I doubt the warranty applies.... Do I have a $80 paperweight or what?

I was looking forward to eventually having time to get back into drawing and scanning then using my wacom tablet to go over stuff and get back into digital art.... bummer.

Well I beat on it (tapped it with my hand) a bit and now it looks better... LOL

I guess a cable is loose inside or something.... If it happens again I'll probably take it apart.

Hopefully it's not the sensor just a easy to get to cable if it goes crappy again!

Still looks crappy if you scan something black you have red noise everywhere..... Hmm.

the ribbon cable is probably loose or something, just pop it apart and re-connect it. just don't break the little clip.

I plan to try that today after the gym. That and I noticed the plug that the ribbon goes into looks like the pins aren't soldered to the board... A closer inspection will revel or not. Plus I can then clean the back of the glass which is all foggy/smudged I guess from the plasticizers out-gasing.. The USB cable was almost sticky to the touch from being in the bag for so long...

If I can take apart my cell phone's ribbon cables and it's clips this should be cake.

Got it apart, cleaned the glass off, and tried to get the cable off to adjust it. Well I wasn't sure which side was messed up, but it looked like the side that goes to the moving sensor side. I couldn't disconnect the cable it was in there tight but on the plastic end that you slide into the female side was seated well but the ribbon looked crooked... I just pushed on it with my screwdriver round shaft as to take it off would require taking the whole motor assembly, belt, etc etc etc to get to the back side of it.

Scanned with the lid up and a pure black image showed up. Scanned with the lid down and pure white. Looks good now! phew!!!! I did loosen the circuit that had the image sensor, which lost the alignment but put it back good enough it seems, images are pretty well square still. I thought I could get to the cable better that way but no dice the cable had a hold down underneath still...

I hope it stays this way I hate having to wipe the dust off underneath the glass and assemble it so it stays clean lol.

Better than new now... scans good and doesn't have fogged/smudge glass. lol
