I got into with a guy a Total Transmission in Woodhaven Michigan today, My girl freinds brother has just had them rebuild his transmission in his 2000 Grand Prix Se and two days latter the engine went and had no oil in it. So i replaced it a a brand new long block, but mean while ever since he got the car back from the shop BEFORE i replaced the engine his shifter hasnt been right it would go into R all the time and the key wouldnt come out inless you slamed it in to P, so we took it back the trans shop so they can go through there check up after rebuilding the trans anyways they tryed to charge us 50 bucks to adjust the shift linkage! they tryed to tell me that they dont have to mess with the linage to rebuild the trans I went off and told them there is no way were paying them to do somthing they should have done when they reinstalled the trans, what kind of shop puts a trans in a car and doesnt adjus the linkage afterwards? the cops got called. the cops told them they were wrong for trying to charge us for that seen that RIGHT ON THE BILL IT SAID; R&R TRANSMISSON, NEW TW CONVERTER, ADJUST TV AND TEST DRIVE. So i dont recamand ANY ONE deal with TOTAL TRANSMISSION IN WOOD HAVEN MICHIGAN THEY CROOKS AND TRY TO SCAM PEOPLE FOR EXTRA MONEY !

I hate people that do that shops try to rip people off all the time i aslo had a dealer ship try to charge my girl freinds mom 1.3 hours to put a thermostat in her 2005 Trail Blazer which is fine but they were also doing an alt on it to which called for 1.0 hours and the t-stat called for 1.3 becasue you have to re move the alt to get the t-stat.. man you reallly have to wathc people!

are you sure they removed the trans? a lot of shops leave the trans in the car and do it.

Not really. Just pull the engine up. That's the trick.

Stay away from Mr. Transmission as well. While doing a clutch change on my old ACR neon they tried to charge me $75 in labor to change each cv shaft seal plus $35 for each seal so $220 for 5 minutes of work that I could do with a single flatblade screwdriver. They also tried to charge $200 to turn the flywheel. So against my dad's wishes I told to put all the parts in a box and i got car towed home, I stayed there till the tow truck got there to make sure the didn't screw with the car.

I had a tranny shop do a full custom install of a TH400 tranny in my old Trans Am, one day driving i stomped the gas to pass some old lady and the crossmember ripped out of the subframe and dropped the tranny about 1" from the ground. It broke the tranny lines and all kinds of other shit on the engine from being twisted.

the shop had changed owners a few weeks before that happened.. i had to fix it myself.

Thats why I started to learn everything about a car not just bulding motors and brake jobs, now i can do just about everything like aligments, tranmissions, rear axles, paint, interior etc. I was tired of getting screwed by shops

Cottman sucks too. Our van was in the shop for 37 days(plymouth voyager). The first time we got it back and it wouldnt shift right. So we took it back. Then a week later we get it back and it seems ok, but it feels like a motor mount has gone bad. On the way home from burgerking, we take off from a red light and the motor drops, oil pan guard scraping the street. F***king idiots never tightened the motor mounts back up.

So another couple weeks in the shop to fix the carnage. It was ok after then.

On out newer van, we got it rebuilt at a much smaller shop. It was done in 3 days, and ran great afterwards. Never again.

brakecheck almost killed my friends sister, she went there to get front and rear brakes done $1200 later she was driving her car and called us complaning of a scratching/grinding noise when we looked at the brakes through the wheels the rear caliper was barely hanging on! the jackasses didn't put the bolts back in, if it wasn't for her stock small wheels the caliper would have fallen off. instead the caliper just cut so far into the factory alum. wheel that it almost cut it in half.

I refuse to take my car to any shop in this area. I'm quite scared cause in a week or two I'll be having my rear struts replaced locally but I think I may do it myself.

I was told you have to "compress" them when they are new which is why you have to take it in? I plan to do some research before I decide to take it in. If all I need is a "strut compressor" I might as well just buy the darn thing. I seen one at a "bargain center" for around $200 which doesn't look like a bad deal. Need to verify it will work before I make the purchase but I probably will. I'm also looking at a pipe bender thing (sry, arrogance, I'm not sure what it's called) so I can fab exhaust for my 3400 project.

As for bad experiences with brakes, the GM dealer in Wahpeton ND, I believe, cross threaded the bolts and forced them into the passenger side caliper. Thankfully it didn't "fail" but it blew taking it off. Thankfully with patients my friend and I were able to get the bolt back in not cross threaded as a temp fix. It held up well and the bolt came out easy when I was prepping for the removal of the transmission.
